Man, 35, charged in Ford Heights shooting

A 35-year-old Ford Heights man has been charged with attempted murder following the shooting early Sunday of another man in the village, according to Cook County sheriff ’s police.

Jason Peden was charged with attempted murder and denied bond during an initial hearing Tuesday at the Cook County Courthouse in Markham, police said.

Officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday to the 1400 block of Diplomat Lane in Ford Heights where they found a 49-yearold resident bleeding from the mouth.

He remains hospitaliz­ed, police said.

Peden, who lives in the same block, went to his home and was taken into custody by police a short time later.

Separately, a Ford Heights woman was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery to a police officer following a fight just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Park Avenue.

Sheriff’s police, who provide police services in Ford Heights, said 42-yearold Torra Johnson, who lives on that block, allegedly stabbed another woman in the back and a sheriff ’s deputy in the hand.

The 37-year-old stabbed in the back remains hospitaliz­ed, according to police.

Johnson was released from custody Tuesday after posting $3,000 bond, according to police.
