Winners of free throw contest, Chicago Ridge educator promoted

Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 and Blue Island Knights of Columbus Council 1366 earlier this month conducted a Free Throw Championsh­ip for boys and girls aged 9-14.

Hosted by the St. Walter/St. Benedict United Athletic Associatio­n in the historic St. Benedict School gymnasium, the contest invited kids to attempt 15 free throws apiece.

Winners for the St. Christina Cardinals including Avery Dunn in the 9-year-old girls division and Nora Dunn in the 12-year-old girls competitio­n. Winners for SWSB United included the following in the boys divisions: Daniel Diaz (9 years), Chris Ortiz (12), Amari Dawson (13) and Jerry Bolar (14).

Dawson edged Max Mendez in a five-shot shootout after they tied after 15 attempts to win the 13-year-old boys division.

All six winners qualified as district champions and advanced to the regional championsh­ips.

Nothnagel named curriculum director in Chicago Ridge

The Chicago Ridge District 127.5 Board named Megan Nothnagel as curriculum director.

Nothnagel has worked for the district during the past five years as principal of Ridge Central School. She also has had numerous leadership responsibi­lities, including serving on many district committees such as the Homework and Grading Committee, where she has led the district in many educationa­l advances toward standards-based grading.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern Illinois University and two master’s degrees from Olivet Nazarene University — in school leadership and in curriculum and instructio­n. Nothnagel lives in Orland Park with her husband and two daughters.

New Lenox’s Clutter named to Jacht’s crew

Jared Clutter of New Lenox is one of 65 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students who have been accepted into the Jacht Agency for spring 2022. The student-run agency, which provides advertisin­g and public relations, is composed of students from various background­s and majors.

MPA students stage ‘Mary Poppins Jr.’ musical

Middle school students at Morgan Park Academy took the stage in February for their annual musical, bringing “Mary Poppins Jr.” to life at the Baer Theater.

The show featured performanc­es from a host of students in grades 6-8, including eighth graders Lilith Vandyke (Palos Park) as Mary Poppins, Zuri Cosey Gay (East Beverly) as Bert, Justin Tyson (Evergreen Park) as George Banks, Brazil McGruder (Blue Island) as Winifred Banks, Maya Johnson (Princeton Park) as Jane Banks and Sarah Fitch (Mount Greenwood) as Michael Banks.

The show was directed by MPA Director of the Arts Peggy Bergin, a Beverly resident, with technical direction by Wayne Wendell, choreograp­hy by seventh grader Kristen Crawford (Flossmoor) and music direction by seventh grader Rain Schuman-Cook (Beverly).

Lockport’s Gallet earns roster spot for Whitewater baseball

Lockport’s John Gallet will compete for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team during the 2022 season. Gallet, a junior, is majoring in biology.
