New Mexican restaurant in Lansing; Dolton Bowl to close

- By Bob Bong

A new Mexican restaurant has opened in Lansing on the site of the former Golden Crown restaurant on Torrence Avenue.

Tacos & Burritos Rancho Grande opened April 21 in its newly constructed building at 17904 S. Torrence Ave.

It’s the second location for TB Rancho Grande. The original is still open at 3444 Ridge Road in downtown Lansing.

It was a long time coming for the second location.

Owner Jorge Trujillo first presented plans to the Lansing Village Board in August 2018 and asked for a Class 8 tax incentive to remodel the Golden Crown building. The building was old and eventually demolished to make room for the new TB Rancho Grande.

Construction took longer than expected in part due to material shortages brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new location has a few new menu items as well as beer and margaritas.

The restaurant is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

Dolton Bowl scheduled to close

Dolton Bowl, which has been a staple for the bowling community in southeast Cook County for decades, announced Monday it would be closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, May 15. No reason was given for the closing.

The bowling alley at 1401 E. Sibley Blvd. in Dolton had been for sale along with the neighboring Willy Roy Soccer Dome for at least two years.

The bowling alley was the scene of two shootings that left three people injured in July 2021.

Lynwood business owner elected to Crisis Center board

The Board of Directors at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia, a nonprofit providing services to victims of domestic violence, has elected Lynwood’s Doranita Tyler to its board of directors.

Tyler, who owns an American Family Insurance agency in Lynwood, has been a strong advocate for victims of domestic violence, according to a news release. Almost 30 years ago, she was a survivor and received services through the Crisis Center.

“I freely share my story with women in similar circumstances as a means to encourage them to seek help and have hope,” said Tyler, who reconnected with the agency as a donor in 2015.

Tyler has served on the organization’s annual gala committee and participated as an ad hoc member of the Development Committee, which focuses on community engagement, fundraising and marketing. She has also been instrumental in securing funding for Crisis Center programs, including several large grants from American Dreams Foundation, the philanthropic arm of American Family Insurance.

The Crisis Center for South Suburbia provides emergency shelter, housing, counseling, advocacy, prevention and education to victims of domestic violence. More information is at www.crisisctr.org.
