Teachers from Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn accepted

Evergreen Park Community High School (EPCHS) District 231 teacher Jim Smith has been appointed to the Pre-AP National Faculty for demonstrat­ing effective teaching practices, proven classroom success and his experience leading profession­al learning. Smith is the division chair for the Mathematic­s Department at EPCHS.

OLCHS teacher set for New York summer institute

Oak Lawn Community High School social studies teacher Ben Reiff has been accepted into the Religious Worlds of New York Summer Institute.

Reiff will work with leading scholars of religion, meet with diverse religious leaders, visit local houses of worship, explore the religious life of the city and develop curriculum projects to bring back to OLCHS.

Rich Township high school students star in poster art competitio­n

Rich Township High School District 227 recently had 14 student participan­ts place in The Links, Incorporat­ed National Poster Art Competitio­n via the South Suburban Chapter.

This year’s theme was social justice and the students were honored on April 29.

In the 7th-9th grade competitio­n, Autumn Durham took first, Honesty Lacy was second and Marlen Garcia took third. The runners-up included Bryant Kindered, Christophe­r LaGuerre, Jaylin Reid, Ashley Betts and Breyanna

McClinton.

In the 10th-12th grade competitio­n, Aubrey Butler, junior, captured first place, Erin Eversley, sophomore, was second and Yaritza Sandoval, sophomore, placed third. The runners-up included Juana Sanchez, Kailen King and Tamara Harden.

Lockport’s Bates helps stage The Busybody

Lockport’s Michael Bates, who is studying communicat­ion at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is serving in the role of assistant stage Manager in “The Busybody” by Susanna Centlivre.

A hilarious restoratio­n comedy, “The Busybody” is scheduled to run at Barnett Theatre in the Greenhill Center of the Arts, April 26-29 at 7:30 p.m. and May 1 at 2 p.m. In addition, an outdoor performanc­e will be held on April 30 at 2 p.m. at the Frawley Family Amphitheat­er,
