Stan’s Donuts opens inside Oak Lawn Mariano’s

Almost two years after opening a Stan’s Donuts & Coffee in Orland Park, owner Rich Labriola has brought a second location, of sorts, to the south suburbs.

Stan’s has opened a coffee shop inside of the Mariano’s supermarket at 11000 S. Cicero Ave. in Oak Lawn. The full-service shop is the 17th Stan’s location in the Chicago marketplace.

It celebrated its grand opening on Saturday.

Additional Stan’s will be opening later this year inside Mariano’s supermarkets in Bridgeport, Ravenswood and West Loop in Chicago. Another shop is expected to open next year in the Uptown neighborhood.

Labriola bought the company from founder Stan Berman, who launched the company in Los Angeles in 1963. Labriola opened his first Chicago location in 2014.

Labriola hails from Blue Island and when he opened the Orland Park location at 15646 S. LaGrange Road he said he hoped it would be the first of many more suburban locations.

“I always wanted to come south,” he said then. “My hope is to eventually have 25-30 Chicagoland locations.”

Chuck Lager restaurant opens in Orland Park

Chef Fabio Viviani was on hand Monday and Tuesday for the grand opening of the new Chuck Lager American Tavern restaurant in the former Granite City brew pub at 14035 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park.

It’s only the fourth Chuck Lager restaurant. Others are in Wilmington, Delaware, Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Barrington, New Jersey. New locations are being eyed in Florida.

Viviani is a chef who was on the “Top Chef ” television show, and he was happy to bring the restaurant to Orland Park.

“We have a lot of friends in Orland Park and we love the area,” he said when plans for the restaurant were approved a year ago. “We have a restaurant with a fun concept. We take the casual dining experience and combine it with well-thought bard food and a fun atmosphere.”

Chuck Lager will eventually be open for brunch, lunch and dinner service, but is starting with dinner service only beginning at 4 p.m. daily. The restaurant is open until 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

To woo the restaurant, village officials signed off on a 21-page agreement that allows, among other things, Chuck Lager to keep 50% of the sales tax for 10 years and a 25% reduction on the permit and related fees.

Pizza Hut moves from Bridgeview to Burbank
