Lincoln-Way East alumnus Nick Allegretti becomes father, wins Super Bowl for Kansas City Chiefs the same day

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, a Lincoln-Way East High School alumnus from Frankfort, became a father Sunday hours before winning the Super Bowl.

Nick got a call about 4 a.m. from his wife, Christina, who told him she was ready to deliver their daughters, said Tammy Allegretti, Nick’s mother.

Nick and his parents sat in their hotel lobby in Arizona, for about an hour until he got a call back to let him know his twin daughters were born, Tammy said. “We were just really happy and excited for him,” she said.

“Nicky has always wanted to be a dad and Christina has always wanted to be a mom.”

Later, the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the 57th Super Bowl.

“Not many people can say that they won a Super Bowl and that wasn’t the best thing that happened to them that day,” said Joe Allegretti, Nick’s brother. “Win or lose, it still would’ve been a pretty awesome day for him being at the Super Bowl and having his first two kids born.”

Nick Allegretti graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School in 2014 and was drafted by the Chiefs in 2019, according to the team’s website.

He has played in three Super Bowls with the team, winning two of them, according to the website.

Lincoln-Way East High School athletic director Mark Vander Kooi said the whole high school community is “extremely proud and happy for Nick.”

“He is a class act and deserves all the best in life,” Kooi said in a released statement.

“I am not sure I have ever been around a more genuine person who cares so much about others and doing things the right way. He is going to be a great father.”

Christina and the babies have been doing well post delivery, Joe Allegretti said.

Nick and his parents flew back to Chicago on Monday eager to meet the babies and to see Christina.

Tammy said Nick saw his daughters for the first time Monday night.

They have chosen not to share photos of their daughters.

“We were all just very happy to see the newest addition to the Allegretti family,” Tammy said.
