Tropical Storm Nicholas slows, dumps rain along Gulf Coast

- By JUAN A. LOZANO

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — Tropical Storm Nicholas slowed to a crawl over southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana Tuesday after blowing ashore as a hurricane, knocking out power to a half-million homes and businesses and dumping more than a foot (30.5 centimeters) of rain along the same area swamped by Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

Nicholas could potentially stall over storm-battered Louisiana and bring life-threatening floods across the Deep South over the coming days, forecasters said.

“We ask if you donate food to please bring it in something disposable or have your name and phone number on the container so we can get it back to you,” Elmore said.

There will be sponsor tables for eight for $250. Individual tickets are $30.

“There will be tea, soda and water for those who don’t care for beer or wine,” Elmore said. “The main thing is come out and support the animal shelter. This has been a hard couple of years since we have not been able to have any large fundraising events.”

Providing an animal with testing for disease, shots, flea treatment, food, shelter and medical care is very expensive.

It has been quite some time since the WPCCAS was able to sponsor a large event. Everyone is ready to get out and have fun after so long of being indoors. Bring something yummy to eat, donate a silent auction item or two and come have a good time and support the ani

mal shelter.

The WPCCAS has been at capacity since spring, even with a steady flow of adoptions, and transports. Kittens and puppies are still being born. The shelter cannot stress having pets spayed and neutered enough. Having animals altered is the only way to stop the breeding of unwanted puppies and kittens.
