Hebron Christian sweeps Delta on road

- DTL Staff Report

Aubrey Eaton can put together quite a streak in the circle for the Hebron Christian softball team.

In the first game of a Class 2A, District 1 doubleheader at Delta Academy on Monday, Eaton had a perfect game through five innings for the Lady Eagles and struck out 16 batters in nine innings.

Hebron won the first game in nine innings with the international tiebreaker rule 4-3 and used that momentum to also capture the second game 6-1.

Eaton pitched and got the win in both games for the Lady Eagles.

“She was on fire,” Hebron softball coach Randy Haynes said. “She did a good job with placement. We went kind of high under the collarbone and the chin and realized they were susceptible to that kind of deal. She stayed on them with that kind of stuff and they could not catch up to her. She actually pitched 16 innings with back-to-back (games).”

the sixth.

After Delta Academy was able to score twice in the sixth to go up 2-1, Hebron

tied the game on an inside the park home run by Logan Williams.

The game continued to go back and forth in the eighth inning with Lowe scoring another run for Hebron for a 3-2 advantage, then Delta Academy tied the game again with a run in the eighth.

Eaton was put on second base as a runner in the ninth due to the international tiebreaker, then she advanced to third base on a ground out by Evie Staton. BB Ingram had the game-winning single to drive in Eaton.

Eaton went back to the circle to close out the game and added a pair of strikeouts to her impressive total.

Offensively, Lowe went 4-for-7 and Logan Williams went 3-for-6 with a home run.

With the sweep, the Lady Eagles improved their overall record to 5-5, but more importantly 3-0 in the district. They were scheduled to play a makeup game against Columbus Christian on Tuesday at home, then host West Memphis Christian in a doubleheader next Monday, which are all conference games.

If Hebron can defeat Columbus Christian and take at least one of the games against West Memphis, it will capture the No. 1 seed in the conference going into the playoffs.
