CHURCH DIRECTORY & DEVOTIONAL Barbie Doll inheritance

-

When our sister passed away last September, she left a sizable Barbie doll collection. Barbie has remained popular since it first went on display on March 9, 1959, at the American Toy Fair in New York City. What makes Barbie so popular? A researcher stated it this way: “Barbie lets girls act out the fantasy of being grown up with great hair, lots of clothes, and an extensive shoe collection – all without the added horror of a MasterCard bill.”

When the Cinderella Barbie was released, it became one of the all-time best sellers. What young girl has not dreamed of being Cinderella and going to the ball dressed in a gorgeous gown and marrying the prince – or of being Snow White? Remember, she had been tricked into eating of the poisoned apple that had put her in a deep sleep from which she could not wake. A handsome prince, on his powerful white steed, fought through a thick forest of thorns to reach her. When he found her and kissed her, she awoke, free from the spell of the wicked queen.

Do you remember the last line to all those fairy tales? “And they lived happily ever after!”

Life is not a fairy tale, though, is it? There are real battles to fight – battles that did begin with the bite of a forbidden fruit. And we DO have a Prince coming on a white horse to rescue us! Isaiah 9: 6 calls Him the “Prince of Peace.” John said in Revelation 19: 11, “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True.”

He, Who came first as a Lamb to be sacrificed for our sins, is coming again as a conqueror and king. “With justice He judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns.

He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God…On His robe and His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” ( Revelation 19: 12- 16).

Our Prince, Jesus, is coming soon! And with Him, we truly will “live happily ever after!”
