Meet DTL's new outside salesperson Lakellye Evans

- By CAL BROWN

For the past three weeks, Lakellye Evans has been learning while getting the job done as the newest outside salesperson for the Daily Times Leader.

Her first day was April 18. In her new role at DTL, Evans will be visiting businesses and selling promotions into the Daily Times Leader, while also selling promotions to Starkville businesses in the DTL's sister paper, the Starkville Daily News.

“This week, I've been selling stuff for Mother's Day for this weekend's paper. Then next week is Nurses Week and I'll also be selling some stuff for graduation,” said Evans. “Everything I've been out doing is dealing with something that's coming up.”

Before she started working at DTL, Evans worked at the First Baptist Church daycare in Starkville for 13 years, so her new position is definitely a change of pace.

“This job I have now is something totally different, because I'm just so used to working with kids,” said Evans. “It's still a learning process for me, going out and talking to people. But I started my first day, went out my third day, and I ended up getting two sales that day, so that was good. I think I'm getting the hang of it.”

When it comes to going out and selling promotions, Evans believes her happy-golucky attitude gives her an advantage in her field.

“I feel like I'm a downto- earth person who just enjoys meeting new people both in West Point and Starkville,” said Evans. “The first place I went to didn't go too well, so I went to another place and the lady there told me I did real good. I told her it was my first week and she said, ‘ Wow, well you did really well.' When I came back into the office, she had emailed me for inquiries, so I think I'm doing it right.”

Outside of work, Evans enjoys spending time with her family, especially her threeyear-old son Caiden, who is into a lot of different things.

“Right now, he's into fire trucks, Sonic the Hedgehog, Spider-Man, Transformers, all of it,” said Evans. “He got

a little toy truck the other day that turns into a Transformer, and he gave it to me and I was like, ‘I don't know how to put this back together.”

According to Evans, it is Caiden's world and she's just living in it.

“Anything he does, I do with him. Whether it's watching TV, playing outside, anything. He's a very friendly and sweet kid,” Evans said.

If you see Lakellye around town, be sure to tell her hello.
