STARKVILLE – The Frostbite Race presented by Chick-Fil-A Starkville, which was started over 37 years ago, is a chilly annual event in Starkville that draws runners from all over, and everyone is gearing up for the 2023 edition which is now just a month away.

Just like last year, this year's Frostbite, taking place on January 28, will begin and end on Starkville's Main Street and incorporate the Cotton District, Mississippi State University campus and Starkville's Historic District into the course. The traditional winter half-marathon will also include a 10K and 5K races to include more intermediate and novice runners and families. Chip timing, custom medals, and high quality swag will also help the Frostbite appeal to more runners and improve community involvement.

Despite the cold, Saturday morning weather for the 2022 race, runners from Starkville and surrounding areas came out and participated in the 36th edition back in January.

“We moved it downtown about six years ago and it has grown every year, which is amazing,” said Race Director Brad Jones.“We think it's great for the community. It creates a fun environment which the community embraces.”

Jones added that it's not just Starkvillians or just people from the surrounding area who come to run, but also people from around the country.

“The fact that people are willing to drive to the Frostbite is just awesome,” said Jones. “I think it's a tribute to the hard work that me and my race director partners have done and, of course, the sponsors that have been great partners with us.”
