Oak Hill holds ceremony for 1,000-point milestone reached by Briggs, Trolio

Basketball players reaching the 1,000-point milestone during a season can be a very rare occurrence.

Oak Hill Academy had two players to hit that mark this year.

Collins Trolio of the Raiders and Mary Beth Briggs of the Lady Raiders both scored 1,000 points in their outstanding careers at the school.

On Thursday, Oak Hill Athletic Director Phil Ferguson recognized Trolio and Briggs for the remarkable total.

“This is quite an accomplishment, and we are proud of them and appreciate what they have done for Oak Hill,” Ferguson said.

Raider varsity basketball coaches Lee Hazelwood of the boys and Terry Walters of the girls presented Trolio and Briggs each with a 1,000 milestone basketballs and a framed posters.

“I didn't know the ceremony was coming, but I was definitely a little bit surprised,” Trolio said of the honor.

Trolio said it was a satisfying feeling to be able to score 1,000 points and help his team as much as he could.

“I never saw it on paper, but it was really cool to see it come together and equal out to a number that I was pretty proud of,” Trolio said. “It was a fun team and my coaches who helped me get here. I appreciate it.”

Briggs also “had no idea” about the ceremony and said “it was a nice surprise.”

She had her eye on 1,000 points as a sophomore at Oak Hill.

“I set that goal when I really started really playing in high school on the varsity team,” Briggs said. “I'm very thankful for my coaches and my teammates to help me get there. Obviously, I would not have been able to reach 1,000 points if we didn't make it to the state tournament because I needed that last game to reach that. I also had a really good trainer coach Terrell ( Warren) at TNT Elite Training in Columbus. He really pushed me to make the shots and make the moves to get to the goal and score, and I'm also very appreciative of my parents too for putting in the time and effort to help me get to where I am.”
