Obituaries DORIS STEADMAN BRUCE

Mrs. Bruce died Monday, March 25 at North Mississipp­i Medical Center in Tupelo. She was 88.

A lifelong resident of West Point, she was born May 30, 1935, to Mr. And Mrs. R.C. Steadman. She first worked with West Point Manufactur­ing Co. but spent the majority of her career in insurance working for Kyle Chandler Insurance Agency, later Galloway

Chandler McKinney in West Point.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Bruce Hays ( Joey) of West Point; sons Clark Bruce (Donna) and Layne Bruce of Madison; grandchild­ren Thomas Hays and Mary Helon Hays of West Point and Clark Hays (Emily) of Brandon; and great grandson William Hays of Brandon. She is also survived by a number of close nieces and nephews all of whom she loved as her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy “Spanky” Bruce; her brothers Robert C. “Bobby”

Steadman, Malcolm “Mac” Steadman, and Charles “Charlie” Steadman, sisters Jeanette Steadman Pyle and Katherine Steadman Davis, all of West Point, and her mother-in-law, Helon “Honey” Bruce.

Pallbearer­s are Thomas Hays, Clark Hays, Steve Pyle, Larry Steadman, Mike Steadman, and Kale Pierce, Honorary pallbearer­s are Bruce Wooten, Shawn Pyle, and Shannon Pyle, Dr. Robert Evans, Dr. Rush Peace, her neighbor Bob Wyman, and her Friendly Fellowship Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First

United Methodist Church of West Point or the West Point Clay County Animal Shelter, where she adopted her best friend, Ellie the tuxedo cat, in 2010.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. Thursday March 28, 2024 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Darian Tennyson officiatin­g. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be held in Greenwood City Cemetery. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangemen­ts.
