Excellence in Teaching nominees sought

Do you know of a teacher in one of Delaware County’s public and non-public schools who excels in the classroom and is having a significant impact on his or her students? If so, nominate that individual for the prestigious 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award, established by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation in partnership with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit to recognize outstanding educators.

Rick Durante, FMFCU vice president of education and director of the Delco Hi-Q academic quiz competition for high school scholars, said the full-service financial institution is proud to partner again with the I.U. in acknowledging the valuable contributions to education made by Delaware County’s extraordinary educators.

“Excellence in teaching has a considerable impact on the lives of students of all ages and on the quality of education offered by schools here in our county,” he said.

Of Delaware County’s many exceptional teachers, 19 of the most exemplary will be selected to receive the esteemed award. There will be one from each of the county’s 15 public school districts and one from the Intermediate Unit. In addition, one elementary, one middle school and one high school teacher will be chosen for the honor from among the county’s non-public schools. Each awardee will receive $500 and a commemorative keepsake, along with $1,000 to benefit his or her school.

All recipients will be honored at the 11th annual “Partners in Education Celebration” on April 28, 2016 at the Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill, presented by FMFCU Foundation and the I.U. The honorees also will be recognized in an edition of the

County Daily Times.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must be Pennsylvania-certified active educators in a Delaware County public, private or parochial school and must provide direct instruction to students in a classroom setting. This includes classroom teachers, subject teachers and certified teaching professionals who instruct students of any age, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Also eligible are reading specialists, speech therapists, learning support teachers and school librarians.

Anyone, including present or former students, parents, administrators, co-workers, school employees or community members, can nominate a potential recipient. The nomination can be based on current performance or on cumulative efforts during many years of dedication to his or her profession.

Nominations may be made online at www.fmfcu.org./excellence. The deadline for submission is Feb. 5.
