William H. Stewart

William H. Stewart of Garnet Valley, age 78, passed away on January 2, 2016 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Philadelph­ia, Mr. Stewart, also known as Bill, Bud, and Reds, was a 1955 graduate of West Catholic High School and a 1973 graduate of Widner College. An U.S. Army veteran, he was employed as an accountant by General Electric Co. and retired from CIGNA Corp. after 25 years of service.

Bill was a devoted Philadelph­ia Phillies fan who enjoyed fishing, reading, writing short stories, and most of all, spending time with his family and two best friends, Bill and Don. He was an ESL instructor and was proud of he and his wife’s, Mary Anne, affiliatio­n with Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

He was the son of the late William H. and Elizabeth (Logan) Stewart. He was also predecease­d by his sisters Elizabeth Giordano and Barbara Stewart.

SURVIVORS: His devoted wife of 53 years: Mary Anne (Luttrell) Stewart; sons: William Jr. (Kathleen), Brian (Keva), and Christophe­r (Heather); sister: Geraldine McCleary; six grandchild­ren, many nieces and nephews, and other family in Ireland.

VISITATION: Thursday from 8:30-10:15am at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, Ltd., 5980 Chichester Ave., A ston.

FUNERAL MASS: Thursday at 11:00am at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington. BURIAL: St. Thomas The Apostle Cemetery, Glen Mills.

In lieu of flowers and mass intentions: Donations to be made to the Sisters of Saint Francis Foundation c/o Our Lady of Angels Convent, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, PA 19014.
