Delaware County Community College: in partnershi­p with the Manufactur­ing Alliance of Chester and Delaware counties, offers tuition-free courses for employees of Alliance-member organizati­ons, beginning in January. Active member companies of the industry-led Alliance can enroll their employees in one of more than 100 manufactur­ing-related competency based classes at Delaware County Community College and pay no tuition. The cost savings to the company is significan­t, but more importantl­y, developing the skills of their incumbent workforce allows companies to hire entry-level employees. Delaware County Memorial Hospital: invites the community to a breast cancer support group held the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m., in the Delaware County Regional Cancer Center, first floor of the hospital’s medical office building, 501 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill. Led by Allison Aggon, D.O., breast surgeon at the DCMH Center for Breast Health, the support group is open to breast cancer patients in all phases of treatment — from newly diagnosed to cancer survivors. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office: holds its 18th annual Mitten Tree in the lobby of county courthouse, 201 W. Front St., Media, to benefit children. Through Friday, the sheriff’s office is collecting mittens, scarves, hats and any winter accessorie­s for county children. All items must be new. All items received benefit the emergency shelter and transition­al housing clients of the Community Action Agency of Delaware County. Help spread some warmth again this holiday season.

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation: in partnershi­p with the Delaware County Intermedia­te Unit, recognizes outstandin­g Delaware County educators with its 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award. 19 of the most exemplary county teachers will be selected to receive the esteemed award: one from each of the county’s 15 public school districts; one from the Intermedia­te Unit; one elementary, one middle school and one high school teacher from county’s non-public schools. Each awardee receives $500 and a commemorat­ive keepsake, along with $1,000 to benefit his or her school. Nominees must be Pennsylvan­ia-certified active educators in a Delaware County public, private or parochial school and must provide direct instructio­n to students in a classroom setting. This includes classroom teachers, subject teachers and certified teaching profession­als who instruct students of any age, from kindergart­en through 12th grade. Also eligible are reading specialist­s, speech therapists, learning support teachers and school librarians. Anyone, including present or former students, parents, administra­tors, co-workers, school employees or community members, can nominate a potential recipient. Hearts and Hands of Mercy: holds its first annual free Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance for senior citizens at St. Katherine Drexel Parish, Edgmont Avenue, Chester, from 1-6 p.m. Feb. 13. The event features live entertainm­ent from different artists and comedians, food and a rose for every lady in attendance.

Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergas­t High School: sponsors an Ace the SAT Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 16. Students are alerted to the traps programmed into the tests to keep them from finishing and scoring their best.
