Delco librarian receives Dobbin Award
The Southeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania Library Association (SEPLA) recently awarded Janis Stubbs, assistant director of Delaware County Libraries, with the prestigious 2015 Patricia A. Dobbin Award for her dedication and service.
The Patricia A. Dobbin Award is given annually to a member of the library community of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties who demonstrates one or more of the characteristics of outstanding service, exceptional commitment, distinguished leadership, significant contributions, unique ability and sound judgment. The award was first presented posthumously to Patricia A. Dobbin in 1992.
Stubbs served as the first professional librarian hired for the newly formed Delaware County Library System in 1982. She held the position of head of technical services until becoming assistant director/district consultant/media services in 1999. As the assistant director and consultant librarian for the Delaware County Library System, Stubbs helps 26 public libraries provide outstanding service to more than 560,000 residents.
Stubbs was recognized by her co-workers and colleagues by being named the Delaware County Library System Outstanding Library Employee in 2011.
She has held several leadership positions in the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA), serving on the PaLA board (20092011), Legislative Committee (2012- current), PaLA Awards Committee (2012, 2014), Conference Committee (2008) and Scholarship Committee.
Stubbs is also a member of the PA Forward Steering Committee and the PA Forward Training Committee. All of these diligent volunteer efforts led the association membership to elect her as its PaLA president in 2014. She has also been active in PALS, the PaLA mentoring project.
