No. 14 Sun Devils take care of No. 9 Stanford; Vols beat Missouri

-

TEMPE, ARIZ. >> Sophie Brunner scored 12 points and No. 14 Arizona State held ninth-ranked Stanford to its lowest point total ever in a 49-31 victory Monday night.

The Sun Devils (11-3, won their eighth 2-0 Pac12) straight game and have wins in three of the last four meetings between the two teams, all three in regular-season play.

The Cardinal suffered through an awful night shooting, hitting just 11 of 43 shots.

Stanford (11-3, 1-1) lost for just the fourth time in the month of January over the past seven seasons and for only the 14th time in 71 meetings with ASU since Jan. 5, 1979.

Arizona State controlled the boards 41-32 and had a seven-rebound edge on the offensive glass. Arnecia Hawkins added 12 points for the Sun Devil as the Cardinal’s five-game win streak came to an end. The Cardinal’s previous worst game was a 32-point effort against Missouri on Jan. 2, 1984. NO. 12 TENNESSEE 71, NO. 20 MISSOURI 55 >> Diamond DeShields had 11 points and added 10 to help Tennessee hand Missouri its first loss of the season.

Jaime Nared scored 13 points and Mercedes Russell added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Vols (10-3).

Missouri had won its first 13 games and was hosting a ranked team as a Top 25 team itself for the first time since 1984.

DeShields made a layup and a jumper to spark a 9-0 run to open the third quarter and push the Tennessee lead to 42-26. The Lady Vols led by at least 14 the rest of the way.
