Mea, Thompson help Ridley zip to victory

Jordan Mea and Riley Thompson showed Ridley’s sprint depth, winning the 50- and 100yard freestyle, respective­ly, to lead the Green Raiders to a 9976 win over Bonner-Prendergas­t in nonleague girls swimming action Monday.

Gab Rudy added a pair of wins in the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Kiera Wadsworth and Marisela Rechner ensured the Green Raiders’ finished on a high note by winning the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststro­ke, respective­ly.

Tara McBlain was quickest in the 500 free for the Pandas, while Colleen King edged Ridley’s Allison Mansfield by a second to win the 200 individual medley.

Boys Swimming

Brett Korn bookended the diving break with wins in the 50 free and 100 fly to lead Ridley to a 9779 win over Bonner-Prendergas­t in a nonleague meet.

Freshman Zach Anderson won the 200 free and 100 free — the latter by .29 seconds ahead of John Ellis — while classmates Kevin Tanzosh and Mason Beck scored a 1-2 result in the 500 free. Chad Wadsworth’s win in the 100 back and Joe Hulsey’s 100 breast triumph sealed the win for Ridley.

Bonner-Prendie’s Daniel Dwyer won the 200 IM and swam on the Friars’ victorious 200 medley relay.

Boys Basketball

Ryan Daly led the scoring parade with 26 points, five rebounds and five steals as Archbishop Carroll trampled Bishop McDevitt, 77-39, in a Catholic League game Monday.

Josh Sharkey posted a doubledoub­le of 17 points and 10 assists for Carroll, which scored 34 points in the third quarter to blow the game open.

John Rigsby and Miks Antoms each supplied nine points while combining to grab 15 rebounds for the Patriots (10-1, 2-0).

Also in the Catholic League: NEUMANN-GORETTI 76, CARDINAL O’HARA 36 >> Jaye’Lyn Peebles accounted for half of the Lions’ points with 18, but the Lions (4-7, 0-2) couldn’t keep pace.

Zane Martin led the Saints with 21 points, as the Saints saw all 11 players get on the score sheet.

In nonleague action: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 64, TACONY CHARTER 47 >> Kharon Randolph poured in 18 points, and freshman Gavin Burke hit three 3-pointers for a career-best 13 points as the Fords rolled in their final nonleague tune-up.

Jack Marshall added 12 points, and Joe Dignazio also threw in three triples to finish with 11 for the Fords (5-6).

Girls Basketball

Freshman Sami Smith notched a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Eileen Piombino poured in a game-high 12 points as Sacred Heart downed Calvary Baptist, 61-16.

Chelsea Slaughter added a career-high eight points, and Lauren Kilroy also chipped in with eight for the Lions (3-10).

In another nonleague game:

POTTSGROVE 48, CHICHESTER 27 >> The Eagles were outscored in the first period, 10-2, and never recovered.

Senior guard Lauren Carrafa made a pair of 3-point field goals and scored a team-high 11 points for the Eagles (3-5), who got eight points from sophomore forward Nicole O’Donnell.

Diana Randelman paced Falcons with 18 points.

Hockey

Lucas Summers scored off a Nicholas Malogio feed in the first period, and Nicholas Daluisio added a third-period, power-play tally, but Sun Valley dropped a 9-2 decision to Avon Grove Monday in a South Division encounter.

In the Central League RIDLEY 14, HARRITON 4 >> Nick Catona lit the lamp four times to go with two assists, and Michael Giampapa dished four helpers to complement his two goals as the Green Raiders made short work of the Rams in a mercy-rule-shortened affair.

Nick Woods and Jake Cross each scored a goal to go with three assists, and Nate Dunning paired two goals with two assists for Ridley.
