Sound Off: Call 484-521-3180

YOU’RE A LIFE SAVER

I just want to thank the person who found my wallet at Bed Bath and Beyond on Christmas Eve and returned it. There are plenty of angels out there.

DEFINE ‘REAL’

To the caller who said people should get over themselves and get on with some real issues: Well, maybe they are real issues to certain people. What gives you right to say what are real issues and what are not real issues? You just sound like another pompous Republican.

OBAMA – THIRD TERM

TIMES FOR CHANGE

I want to thank the Daily Times for finally paying attention to Sound Off complaints about the tiny print used for Wednesday’s recipes. They are now easy to read and I actually made some.

BLAME LURIE

Who is to blame for the Eagles: Chip or Jeff Lurie? We think Lurie, who forgot the rule of life: If it looks too good to be true, it most likely isn’t true.

JEANETTE AND W.B.

GO AWAY, OPRAH

I’m really sick of seeing Oprah Winfrey with our new commercial. She’s on every half hour talking about Weight Watchers. It’s really annoying.

GREED RULES

How can any Republican say they’re not like Scrooge or Mr. Potter? Of course they are. They’re all rich and greedy. I hope everybody had a merry Christmas and votes Democratic in the new year.

TIM STRIKES BACK

Remember back in the preseason when the Eagles looked so good? They look like a Super Bowl bound team, then they cut Tebow and it all fell apart. It’s a curse, I tell you: The Curse of Tebow. They will be 5-11 for the next five years.

TIM, EX-QB

TOM THUMBED

Well, if nothing else this season, the Eagles handed Tom Coughlin a loss in his final game with the Giants. That should keep my spirits up for a while.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS

High tuitions and exorbitant student loans are in the news again. Also, some elite Main Line ele- mentary and high schools are charging exorbitant tuitions which really are just status-seeking masquerading. The irony is that these schools, with all their pretensions and self-conscious academic settings, will never approach the incredible social and educational capital of the Catholic schools before and after World War II. In every large immigrant city, there was the perfect confluence of the family, the parish and religious orders of nuns operating out of modest parochial schools, proud of presenting crosses and American flags while at the same time offering a quality education and most importantly a strong identity — religious and social. That identity is lingering today, in the quiet resuscitation of Catholic schools and colleges.

DIVORCE IS US

Somebody in Sound Off thinks that the economy is driving the mortgage foreclosures. It’s not. People are getting divorces. There are a lot of problems with couples and they give up the house and they won’t pay for it. It’s not all due to the economy. Under every president I can remember, there’s always been mortgage foreclosures in the papers, but somebody wants to blame the Democrats and Obama for it. Well, the economy is doing great. I haven’t had such a good year since last year, and year before, and the year before that. I’m doing great and I think Obama is doing great.

NO MISTAKE

“Frustrated Citizen” asks why they made the mistake of listening to the president’s radio address on Saturday morning. It’s not a mistake. They do it on purpose so they can act like a typical right-winger and rag on the president.

FEEL THE BERN

To “Dems The Facts,” I’ve got news for you: The president isn’t the reason people on Social Security aren’t getting raises. It’s Congress; they make the laws. People want to blame Obama for everything. I’m not a Democrat and I used to vote Republican, but I wouldn’t vote Republican now if my life depending on it. I will choose the lesser of two evils, and it’s not Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders has my vote. If you look at his past record in the Senate, he’s always been about the middle class. Obama is not the blame for Social Security not getting a raise.
