Creighton holds off Nova despite 25 from Quinn

The Blue Jays used a fast start in the second half to pull away for a 65-62 victory over Villanova at the Pavilion.

Creighton outscored the Wildcats, 13-7, over the first 4:46 of the second half to increase its lead to 40-28. The Wildcats did get within two points, but no closer.

The loss spoiled a career-high 25-point, 11-rebound effort by sophomore Megan Quinn, the two-time

Player of the Year from Episcopal Academy. Caroline Coyer added 16 points and nine assists, while Alex Louin had 14 points and eight boards.

In other women’s action: CABRINI 53, IMMACULATA 32 >> Kristina Startare led a balanced attack with 10 points as the Cavaliers topped the Mighty Macs in a rematch of last year’s CSAC championsh­ip game. Dana Peterson and Sabrini Hackendorn chipped in with eight points each. GWYNEDD-MERCY 77, NEUMANN 76 >> Nicole Dombrowski hit the back end of a two-shot foul with seven seconds left to seal the victory for the Griffins (9-3, 3-0 CSAC). Oliva Bradford and Charlotte Kucowski (10 rebounds) tallied 17 points each to pace Gwynedd-Mercy.

JoHanna Metzger and Nafisa Saunders points apiece to lead Neumann (4-8, 2-1). SMU 69, TEMPLE 67 >> Gabrielle Wilkins hit two free throws with five seconds left to win it for the Mustangs. She and McKenzie Adams led SMU with 18 points each. Wilkins also had 10 rebounds.

Alliya Butts paced Temple with a game-high 22 points. Feyonda Fitzgerlad (11 points) and Erica Covile (10 points, 10 rebounds) also reach double figures for the Owls (8-5, 2-1).

A month off did not bother Cabrini as the Cavaliers opened the new year with a 95-83 victory over Cairn.

Freshman Ivan Robinson paced four players in double figures with a career-high 29 points. Tyheim Monroe extended his double-double to nine with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Jair Green added 17 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists. Ace Henry chipped in with 12 points (4-5, 2-1 CSAC). NEUMANN 85, MARYWOOD 62 >> James Butler poured in 26 points, pulled down five rebounds, handed out four assists and made four steals as the Knights (65, 2-2) rolled on the road. DeShawn Lowman added 18 points and eight rebounds. Denzel Yard scored 13 points, and Tyaire Hudson and Tony Parker added 10 points each.
