Visit Cabela’s in Christiana Mall to show law enforcement support
CHRISTIANA, DEL. >> Cabela’s Christiana Mall location gives the community a chance to honor local law enforcement in Delaware with an in-store appreciation banner signing. The signing runs through Sunday, July 31. Saturday hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. The public is invited to sign the banner and/or write a note of appreciation. The staff of Christiana Cabela’s will present the banner to local members of law enforcement on behalf of all law enforcement in the state.
Preschool enrollment open
PROSPECT PARK >> St. James Academy Preschool, 732 11th Ave., believes in “striving for excellence” for its students ages 2-5. Enrollment for the fall is now open. Tri-State jazz in Wallingford
NETHER PROVIDENCE >> Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford, hosts a series of concerts sponsored by the TriState Jazz Society from August through March 12, 2017. All concerts are held from 2-4:30 p.m.
The series begins Aug. 21 with pianist Rossano Sportiello, whose eclectic style blends classical training with jazz and stride. He has performed with many of the world’s finest jazz luminaries, including Clark Terry, Kenny Davern, Bucky Pizzarelli, Harry Allen, Bill Charlap, Dick Hyman, and many others, in venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, the Blue Note, Birdland and Feinstein’s, to name a few.
Upcoming concerts include:
• Oct. 16, Ben Mauger’s Vintage Jazz Band, playing dixieland and other early jazz.
• Jan. 15, 2017, Barbone Street Jazz Band with clarinetist Steve Barbone
• March 12, 2017, Richard Barnes & the Midnight Society Orchestra, led by guitarist Richard Barnes, dedicated to the preservation of 1920’s red-hot jazz.
The society’s concert feature artists performing in traditional jazz styles, including dixieland, New Orleansstyle, swing, ragtime, stride piano and boogie-woogie.

Boscov’s event helps food banks
MIDDLETOWN >> Boscov’s Granite Run partners with Family and Community Service of Delaware County to host a “Christmas in July” food drive through July 31. The event helps collect nonperishable and canned food items for local food banks in Delaware County.
Also this summer, join Boscov’s in showing your support to the men and women overseas. Drop-off a holiday greeting card at Boscov’s Courtesy Desk that can be distributed to any soldier overseas through Aug. 31. Please do not specify a soldier’s name on the envelope or card. The goal is to make sure that every soldier receives warm wishes for the holiday season.
Holy Child Academy holds 5K
UPPER DARBY >> Holy Child Academy 5K Run/Walk and One-Mile Kids’ Run is Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 8:30 a.m., passing through the streets of Drexel Park. There is a water stop halfway through the race to provide a boost for the final push home, and all who join in will be able to enjoy refreshments afterward as they cool off and watch the awards ceremony.
Registration is underway, and the first 100 who sign up will receive a free cotton T-shirt. The 5K fee is $20; one-mile fun run is $10. Proceeds benefit the Holy Child Academy athletic programs.
