Sun Valley’s Koons rallies for marathon win

It required three grueling hours, but Sun Valley’s Maddie Koons was able to celebrate victory

The Vanguards’ No. 2 singles performer rallied to defeat Bonner & Prendergas­t’s Marie Petrik in a thriller, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (9-7). The match was the highlight of Sun Valley’s 6-1 nonleague girls tennis win Thursday afternoon.

Olivia Warren was victorious at first singles, and Aislynn Catka also triumphed in solo play. Yna Smith, Jenna DiBona, Alyssa Madden, Pauka Sy and Kaitlyn Lynch their first varsity wins.

Chris Austen shot 1-over 35 at Rolling Green Golf Club to fuel Radnor’s 197-243 Central League victory over Springfiel­d.

Michael Sydnes carded a 37, while Connor Rinehart added a 40 and Kevin Seitz chipped in with a 41 for the Raiders (3-1, 2-0 Central).

Andrew Todaro and Colin Wynne recorded a round of 43 to pace the Cougars (1-2).

In other Central League matches: PENNCREST 221, UPPER DARBY 275 >> Alex Jacobs and Steve Fuessinger both fired a 43 for the Lions. Connor McCabe was the Royals’ low scorer with a 47.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 239, CARDINAL O’HARA 244 >> Dan DiRita carded a 1-over par 35 at Paxon Hollow to lead the Patriots. Mark Prasolowic­z recorded a 38, while James Kelly and Henry Lownes each had a 39.

Kevin Lutz (37), Joe Taggart Nick Scarpone (39) all played O’Hara.

In nonleague action: W.C. EAST 202, GARNET VALLEY 212 >> Mason Hudock shot a par 35 at Concord Country Club for the Jaguars (1-2). Hudock had one birdie and one bogey on the afternoon.

Elsewhere for the Jags, Jimmy Gillespie registered a pair of birdies and finished with a 38, which bested East’s top performers, Sophia Amoroso (39) and Cole Shaw (39). (38) and well for
