100 Years Ago – 1916: A 14-year-old, arrested last night on suspicion for stealing bicycles, was given a preliminary hearing. Two of the bicycles alleged to have been stolen were recovered. The youth is said to have painted the second wheel and sold it for a small amount of money. The first inkling of the thief came when Ralph Pollock, of West Fifth Street, Chester, noticed the youth riding his wheel.
75 Years Ago – 1941: Two more tankers arrived in Marcus Hook loaded with more than 11,000,000 gallons of crude oil. In the past 48 hours, 13 tankers have come from Texas, Mexico and Venezuela. The tankers arriving today were the American Sun, which tied up at the Sun Oil Company docks with shipping men estimated, more than 5,750,000 gallons aboard; and the Ardmore, which brought 3,500,000 gallons to the Sinclair Navigation Co..

25 Years Ago – 1991: Chester residents and community leaders who spoke against a planned waste sterilization plant received a stern lecture on Chester economics from Mayor Willie Mae Leake, who admonished them, “You say no to everything.” Two city minsters and a longtime resident told council they oppose the plan of Thermal Pure Systems Inc. of Pittsburgh to build a 300-ton per day plant that would use steam from the Westinghouse trash-to-steam plant to sterilize hospital and office waste for disposal in landfills.
10 Years Ago – 2006: U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon got a significant cash infusion Monday from former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge at the Springfield Country Club for a $250-a-head fundraiser. Ridge highlighted Weldon’s support for firefighters and first responders years before their status was elevated by the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. “Long before 9⁄11, Curt Weldon pulled together probably the single largest bipartisan caucus in the entire Congress — the firefighters caucus and EMS,” said Ridge.
