Help fill demand for substitute teachers at DCIU
MORTON >> In response to the teacher shortage crisis affecting local school districts, as well as those across the country, DCIU offers a guest teacher service beginning with the 2016-17 school year to help participating school districts in Delaware County with obtaining substitute teachers. A second round of training for the DCIU Guest Teacher Program held on Jan. 25 from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Jan. 26 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Applications must be received by Friday, Jan. 13.
The Guest Teacher Program is designed to provide individuals with a bachelor’s degree with the necessary training required to become day-to-day substitutes. Any individual with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is eligible to apply to the program. Upon completing the program, they receive an emergency permit used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), that enables them to substitute in any participating district and career and technical school on a day-to-day basis.
Participating school districts include: Chichester, Marple Newtown, Radnor Township, Rose Tree Media, Southeast Delco, Springfield, Upper Darby, Wallingford-Swarthmore and DCIU.

Give blood at Mercy Fitz

Vocal group visits Swarthmore College

Through study with masters from singing traditions the world over, the eightvoice ensemble continually expands its vocabulary of singing techniques and, through an ongoing commissioning process, forges a new repertoire without borders.
Del Val teams and Army ‘march on hunger’
The Del Val Athletic Association in conjunction with the U.S. Army hosts U.S. Army March on Hunger in January. After the holiday season local foodbanks have their greatest needs as the holidays often bring the greatest demand. To bring attention to this and to aid in offsetting needs, the U.S. Army, in conjunction with the Del-Val Athletic Association and its member schools — Chichester High School, Chester High School, Academy Park High School, Penn Wood High School, Glen Mills Schools and Interboro High School — along with Ridley High School from the Central League, are be collecting can goods and other nonperishable items at each high school from Jan. 3-14.
On Jan. 14, the Army collects all food from Interboro and Ridley high schools after their rivalry basketball games concludes. The soldiers at each school then ruck march to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
