Havertown couple deliver baby girl in car at YMCA
BRYN MAWR >> Mom-to-be Dana Marie Lu woke up at 5:30 a.m. with mild cramping and thought this is going to be the day. At 6:15 a.m. everything progressed and she knew it was time to go to the hospital.
“We were on our way. It was early morning and there was lots of traffic. I knew we weren’t going to make it. I told him (her husband Tim) to turn around and go to Lankenau Hospital because it was closer and then I had another contraction. So I said call 911, she’s coming. He pulled into the YMCA,” Marie.
Tim figured that it was a good place for the ambulance to spot them. Marielle arrived five minutes later inside the car. The police and EMT’s showed up three minutes after and took Dana Marie and Marielle to Bryn Mawr Hospital where both are doing well.
“They got there very quickly but she got here quicker,” Tim said. “She came out, she cried and her coloring was good. It was a relief that she cried,” said Tim.
“We knew we couldn’t even make it home. I became calmer when I knew that we were going to have her in the car instead of trying said Dana to get to a hospital We were so more worried about afterwards but having the police and EMTs there was a relief,” said Dana Marie.
But the couple agrees that calmness prevailed inside the car because of a natural birth method called Hypnobabies.
