UPPER DARBY >> A personal care aide entrusted to monitor a student with special needs at the Drexel Hill Middle School was charged Wednesday with bringing a gun onto school property, according to police and online court records.

Domonique F. Jordan, 32, of the 1000 block of Chelten Avenue in Philadelphia, is an employee of Staffing Plus and not the Upper Darby School District, township Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said in announcing the subcontractor’s arrest. Jordan, who possesses a valid Pennsylvania concealed carry permit and a Pennsylvania certified agent card, is charged with possessing a weapon on school property – a firstdegree misdemeanor offense, according to online court records.

Jordan was remanded to the county prison after failing to post bail, which was set at 10 percent of $75,000 at a late afternoon preliminary arraignment, according to online court records.

Township police were dispatched to the school on State Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a bullet found on school property. Officers Kevin Finnegan and Kevin Donohue met with Assistant Principal Evan Kramp in his office. They also met with a teacher who indicated that she found a single .40-caliber hollow tip bullet in a staff-only restroom on the second floor of the school.

The teacher then escorted the officers to the restroom, described as a single-person unit that can be locked from the inside. She pointed to the top of a small table next to the toilet where she found the bullet.

The officers checked the restroom but found no other bullets or any weapon. When they returned to Kramp’s office, Jordan entered the room and indicated the bullet belonged to him, according to the probable cause affidavit.

When the officers asked if he had a gun or any other magazines on his person, Jordan removed a 12-round Glock .40-caliber magazine containing 12 bullets from his backpack.

“Jordan stated he did not have a gun on him,” the affidavit states. “While continuing to speak with Jordan he was becoming defensive. Officer Donohue then asked him to remove his backpack, and he became even more defensive. Officer Finnegan frisked Jordan, and no weapons were found on his person.”

When Donohue asked if he had anything else in his backpack, Jordan stated there was another magazine. Donohue recovered a magazine that contained 18 bullets and while doing so, saw a firearm in the backpack, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, a .40-caliber Glock 23 was recovered. Jordan was immediately taken into custody for possessing a firearm on school property.

“His duties at the school do not require him to possess a firearm,” the affidavit states.

Also recovered from Jordan was another 12-round Glock .40-caliber magazine containing 12 bullets. Four other bullets were recovered from his backpack.

In addition to the single bullet found by the teacher, a total of five loose rounds were recovered – two of which were hollow point.

A message left on the office voicemail for the human relations director at Staffing Plus was not returned by end of business day Wednesday.

It was not immediately known if Jordan had retained an attorney.

A preliminary hearing is listed for April 11.
