Zeta Phi Beta continues to promote ‘finer womanhood’
SPRINGFIELD >> The ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Rho Chi Zeta Chapter, hosted their 17th annual Finer Womanhood Blue Revue luncheon, “From Girls to Pearls,” on March 18 at the Springfield Country Club. The luncheon was the culmination of the UPLIFT (Utilizing Potential and Life Interests for Teens) Mentoring Program. 2017 UPLIFT participants were Shari Camille, Ayana Curtis, Essence Pembleton and Ladesha Tyson. The theme for the 2017 program was “Rip the Runway.”
Rho Chi Zeta Chapter established the UPLIFT Mentoring Program in 2000 to help inform, educate and prepare female high school students as they journey through their teen years. Through interactive workshops, the participants receive educational and career guidance, improve leadership and communication skills, learn the importance of social graces, and become more academically, culturally and socially aware.
Family, friends and community members were in attendance to see the participants showcase the skills and talents they have developed as a result of the UPLIFT program. This included a grand finale with the participants performing a choreographed dance number with their positive male role model and receiving with a strand of pearls presented by members of the sorority. The pearls symbolize wealth, power, feminine charm and their transformation from “From Girls to Pearls.” Proceeds from the Blue Revue go towards providing scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
“It has been an amazing experience to witness, first-hand, the boost in poise and confidence of this year’s class and relationships they’ve developed with their fellow UPLIFT participants as well as my sorority members,” said Chapter President Marcia Wilder.
