Hear Swarthmore prof at League of Women Voters luncheon
MEDIA » League of Women Voters - Central Delaware County holds its next Hot Topics Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Friday, April 7, at Media Borough Hall’s Community Room, 301 N. Jackson St.. The topic is “The Supreme Court and the Electoral Process” with guest speaker Carol Nackenoff, Ph.D., the Richter Professor of Political Science at Swarthmore College.
Prof. Nackenoff discusses several “blockbuster” Supreme Court decisions that bear on access to the electoral process, including decisions of state voter ID laws and the Voting Rights Act. Prof. Nackenoff is teaching an honors seminar and a course on American Constitutional Law this semester. She has a special interest in the rhetoric of American electoral politics: The kinds of appeals candidates make to voters, the coded language and the symbols they invoke, and the ways in which they reword American myths and stories. Her presentation is especially timely given the turmoil surrounding the recent presidential election and the appointment of a new Supreme Court Justice.
Cost is $18 per person. Registration is required. For reservations, contact Hank Thorne at 610-5665474 or hthorne@verizon. net. Guests can mail a check to LWV-CDC at PO Box 131, Wallingford, PA 19086, or pay at the door.
