Cooke, Greenwood pace Radnor to opening wins

Peter Cooke ruled the distance events, and Chris Greenwood netted three wins Wednesday as Radnor swept Strath Haven and Marple Newtown on opening day in Central League track.

Cooke triumphed in the 800 and 1,600 and anchored the 4x400 relay to lead the Raiders to a 97-53 win over Marple Newtown and an 82-68 decision over Strath Haven.

Greenwood won the 200 and 400 and led off the victorious 4x100 relay for the Raiders. Aidan Bermudez and Alex Escobar were double-winners for Radnor.

Dayo Abeeb won two events for Strath Haven, which defeated Marple Newtown, 119-26. SPRINGFIEL­D TAKES TWO » Liam Galligan set the tone with wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 to spark Springfiel­d to an 87-63 triumph over Garnet Valley and an 88-56 decision over Upper Darby.

Double-winner Nick Ni led Garnet Valley to a 95-54 success over Upper Darby. LOWER MERION WINS TWICE » Lower Merion dispatched Ridley, 118-32, and Penncrest, 83-67.

Matt Arndt was a doublewinn­er for the Lions, who defeated Ridley, 89-61.

In the Ches-Mont League: GREAT VALLEY 128, SUN VALLEY 13 » John Kester finished second in the shot put and the discus for the Vanguards.

Girls Track

Strath Haven extended its Central League winning streak to 68 with triumphs over Marple Newtown and Radnor.

Double-winners Angela Campanella, Rachel Kent, Mayowa Songonuga and Dana Hubbell led the Panthers to a 132-17 win over Marple Newtown and a 11436 decision over Radnor.

For Radnor, Kalia Rhodes won the 200 and Mab Rongione tied for first in the pole vault with Alexandra Hehn of Strath Haven to lead the Raiders to a 108-36 success over Marple. UPPER DARBY SWEEPS » Triple-winner Victoria Robinson sparked Upper Darby to victories over Garnet Valley and Springfiel­d.

Robinson prevailed in the 100, 300 and triple jump to lead the Royals to an 8960 triumph over Garnet Valley and a 113-40 success over Springfiel­d.

Julia Hellman, who won two events, led Garnet Valley to a 108-39 win over Springfiel­d. Smyphonie Blalock won two events for the Cougars. HAVERFORD CAPTURES TWO WINS » Double-winners Sadie Gold, Grace Drames and Cecilia Katcavage led Haverford to victory.

The Fords defeated Conestoga, 107-39, and Harriton, 79-29. Conestoga beat Harriton, 79-29. RIDLEY WINS TWICE » Izzy Hamlin won the discus and shot put to lead the Green Raiders over Penncrest (88-62) and Lower Merion (86-63). Penncrest knocked off Lower Merion, 78-71. The Green Raiders took first in six of the eight field events.

In Ches-Mont action: GREAT VALLEY 107, SUN VALLEY 32 » Haweh Kwaidah triumphed in the 100 and the long jump for the Vanguards. Shannon Purfield (triple jump) got the other win for Sun Valley.
