RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> Taylor Community Foundation, Community YMCA, Ridley Township Board of Commission­ers, Ridley School District, and the Crozer-Keystone Health System host the 27th annual Health Awareness Day event at Ridley High School from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1.

The free event features free health screenings, health and public safety informatio­n stations, fitness demonstrat­ions by members of the U.S. Armed Forces and local firefighte­rs, face-painting, photos, caricaturi­st, moon bounces, raffles, children’s characters and more. Free breakfast is available to the first 100 people who attend and receive a health screening. Duffy’s Cut doc in Chesco

EAST WHITELAND >> Immaculata University holds a screening of a new Duffy’s Cut documentar­y from Irish American Films, “The Cut: The Journey of the Men and Women of Duffy’s Cut,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1. The film, produced and directed by Shawn Swords, featured Immaculata Professor of History William Watson, Ph.D., as historical consultant. Watson is also director of the Duffy’s Cut Project. The screening is held in the Green Room, with a question-and-answer session following the film.

Several recent Immaculata University History alumni who continue to assist Dr. Watson with excavation at the Duffy’s Cut site, participat­ed in the film as reenactors. The alumni are: Joseph Conte, ’15 of Glen Mills; Matthew McStravog, ’13, of Clifton Heights; Taylor Sims, ’12, of Wayne.

“The Cut: The Journey of the Men and Women of Duffy’s Cut,” is a feature length documentar­y film about the 57 Irish railroad workers who arrived in Philadelph­ia to build mile 59 of the Philadelph­ia and Columbia Railroad, and died within six to eight weeks of violence and cholera. Bring almost anything with a plug to the event for recycling — no large appliances, bulbs, batteries, smoke detectors or wooden speakers. Items requiring payment include CRT monitors and tube TVs for $20 each; LCD TVs for $20 each; and console/projection TVs for $50 each. Service fees may apply to other recyclable­s.

Grange opens for new season

HAVERFORD >> The Historic Grange Estate opens its doors for its 42nd tour season on April 1. Tours of the mansion are available from 1-4 p.m. most Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 29. The last tour of the day begins at 3:30. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children 5-10 and free for those under the age of 5. Private group tours are available by appointmen­t; call the office at 610-446-4958.

There will be no tours: Easter Sunday, April 16; May 20, Memorial Day Weekend, May 27 and 28; Haverford Township Day, Oct. 7, and Christmas Eve Day, Dec. 24.
