Robert L. Whitaker, Sr.

Robert L. Whitaker, Sr., 77 transitioned to his Eternal Home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Born in Scotland Neck, North Carolina on December 6, 1939 to the late Lee Whitaker and Betty Bryant-Whitaker. He was predeceased in death by his parents, 3 grandchildren; Anthony Newman, Arnold McDonald and Christopher King 1 sister, Martha and 4 brothers, William, Thomas, Willie and Fred.

During his residency in the city of Chester in the 60’s and 70’s, Robert was the owner and operator of several businesses; Whitaker’s Delicatessen, Whitaker Gulf Gas Station and Whitaker’s Dry Cleaners. He was actively involved in the Deacon’s Ministry and had membership at Bethany Baptist, Antioch Baptist and Fairview Baptist before moving his membership to Friendly Baptist in Philadelphia, PA where he served as Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry for the past 30 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Irene Whitaker of Philadelphia, Pa. 2 daughters, Cynthia W. King (Brian) of Media Pa, Cassandra W. Majors (Edward) of Chester, Pa, Robert L. Whitaker (Evette) of Delaware and Foster Jackson of Philadelphia, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and I great grandchild. 1 brother Joshua Whitaker of Chester and 1 sister, Carrye W. Prichett (Elgient) of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Viewing on Friday, April 21, 2017 4pm -8 pm and Saturday, April 22, 2017 8 am -10am

Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 22, 2017 at 10 am at Friendly Baptist Church, 1215-25 W. Ruscomb Street, Philadelphia Pa 19141
