Springfield firm announces purchase
SPRINGFIELD >> Nick Cirilli and John B. Yerkes Jr. announce they have completed a stock purchase agreement, where Cirilli Associates Inc. assumes full ownership of Yerkes Associates Inc. The West Chester-based Yerkes Associates, established in 1874, is arguably one of the oldest civil engineering and surveying firms in the country. This year marks 143 years of service to the Philadelphia region. John B. Yerkes Jr. PE, PLS, is embarking upon 56 years of service, having started on the survey crew (1961), and becoming president in 1986. He will remain on staff as a consultant to president and CEO Nick Cirilli.
Springfield-based Cirilli Associates, founded by Nick Cirilli, PE, in 1990, provides civil and structural Engineering, in addition to technical consulting, owner’s agent, project management and various technical training programs.
One of the priorities for both John and Nick was to carefully keep the client base first and foremost in the agreement. Also, Yerkes Associates Inc. remains organizationally unchanged with the exception that it is wholly owned by the now parent company, Cirilli Associates, Inc.

PHILADELPHIA >> Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine has named Marcine Pickron-Davis, Ph.D., as the college’s new chief diversity and community relations officer. She began her duties May 1 and is charged with advancing diversity, inclusion and community partnerships for the Philadelphia and Georgia campuses. She is a native of Philadelphia and currently resides with her family in Glen Mills.
Most recently, Dr. Pickron-Davis served as the inaugural chief community engagement and diversity officer at Widener University, where she served as a strategic leader to advance the university’s commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Among her experiences in higher education, Dr. Pickron-Davis served on Middle States Accreditation Evaluation teams for several institutions and as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement. She also has held faculty appointments in social work and education at Widener University and Cabrini College, and has taught courses on multicultural education, intercultural communication, and community development.
A strong advocate for civic engagement, Dr. Pickron-Davis has served on numerous community boards, including the College Access Center of Delaware County, the Delaware County Habitat for Humanity, and the Delaware County Community Foundation.
She currently serves on the boards of the Darlington Community Arts Center, the Chester Charter School of the Arts, and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Editorial Board. She is a member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, the American Educational Research Association, and a trustee at Calvary United Methodist Church. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

LCB launches new location
NEWTOWN >> The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board recently welcomed local officials and the public to a grand opening of a new Fine Wine & Good Spirits Premium Collection store at Ellis Preserve, 3735 West Chester Pike, Suite 201, Newtown Square.
With nearly 8,800 square feet of space, this new store in a popular retail area features almost 3,700 wines and spirits, including luxury products. The store also carries the popular Chairman’s Selection products, which are hand-selected, highly rated wines available for less than nationally quoted prices.
The store features a center table with that includes a tasting bar, provides counters for highlighting promotional items and educational materials for customers such as: Answers to frequently asked questions about wine and spirits; a vintage chart; a food pairing outline; a party planning guide; a calorie chart; tips for responsible hosting and consumption.

Delco engineers honored
PHILADELPHIA >> The Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers announces the recipients of its Section’s Awards for 2017. These awards are presented annually to cite those individuals who have made significant contributions to the civil engineering profession in the Philadelphia area. Delaware County recipients include:
• John Nawn of Newtown Square has been cited as Philadelphia Civil Engineer of the Year for 2017. This award, the section’s highest honor, was presented to Mr. Nawn at the Section’s annual Spring Social on May 4. Mr. Nawn is a civil engineering expert at Fleisher Forensics in Ambler. He has been with the firm since 2012 and has been involved with transportation design and construction projects in the Philadelphia area for the past 30 years. He is the current President of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers and the 2017 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year.
• James Pezzotti of Newtown Square has been cited as our Structural Engineer of the Year for 2017. This award was presented to Mr. Pezzotti at the section’s annual Spring Social. Mr. Pezzotti was appointed as an Associate Vice President at Pennoni Associates at its headquarters in Center City Philadelphia, where he serves as a Project Manager and Lead Bridge Engineer and manages the firm’s Philadelphia Bridge Group. He has over 31 years of experience in the areas of bridge design, structural rehabilitation and construction, both in government and in private consulting. He has worked on several significant projects including the replacement of seven bridges across the Vine Street Expressway (I676) currently underway and the design of the “cap” over I-95 in Old City Philadelphia.
