Edward Joseph “Topper” Corcoran
Edward Joseph “Topper” Corcoran, age 77, of Folsom PA on July 5, 2017 at Taylor Hospice House.
Beloved husband of the late Ann (nee Brennan,) and loving father of William (Mary), Kevin (Jeanne) and Christopher (Margie). Also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Ashley, Kerri, Billy, Tristan, Erin and Annie: 2 great-grandchildren: Thomas and Blake and his cousins, Sandy Anderson and Diane Wojciechowski.
He was predeceased by his mother, Clara Anderson and his step-father, Joseph DiNicholas.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Eddystone”, Topper graduated from Eddystone High School in 1957. Topper was a standout football star and two-time All Section Three basketball player for the Stoners, which resulted in him being honored by the Delaware County Old Timers Hall of Fame and the Ridley Football Boosters Association Hall of Fame. He worked as a Production Supervisor for Foamex in Eddystone before retiring in 1996, and served several terms as an elected official on the Eddystone Borough Council. He later chaired Eddystone’s Recreation Board and was known to entertain the borough’s children on holidays as Santa, the Easter Bunny, and Uncle Sam. Topper was quick to volunteer his time as a coach or official to make sure the town’s youth had the opportunity to participate in sports.
Active in softball and basketball in the Chester Rec League, he fulfilled his lifelong dream in 1986 by opening Topper’s Bar in Eddystone from which sponsored, coached and played for countless softball teams, many of whom won league championships. In recent years, “Top-Top” was a fixture at the baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball games of his grandchildren sporting the colors of Malvern Prep, Sacred Heart, Strath Haven, Ridley Area Little League, Rutledge Girls Club, St. Madeline’s or OLPH.
He will be fondly remembered for loving everybody.
