McNulty’s clutch hit gives UDHL Babe Ruth title

UDHL’s Tom McNulty was hitless as he strolled to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday. He did not end the game that way.

McNulty’s two-out single gave UDHL the District 1 Babe Ruth 13-year-old title with a 5-4 victory over Broomall-Newtown in the second game of the championsh­ip round at Dermond Field.

B-N forced a second game for the title with a 13-9 victory in the first game of the championsh­ip round. Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Friday in Altoona.

Dan Sullivan tossed five innings of relief to get the win. He also was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Paul Morgan went 4-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs. Kirby Rich added two hits and one RBI for UDHL. BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 13, UDHL 9 » Kristen Kagel’s three-run double was the big blow in an eight-run rally in the seventh inning for B-N.

Main Line Senior Legion

Evan Moore kept Wayne’s championsh­ip hopes alive.

Moore went the distance and threw just 71 pitches to lead Wayne to an 8-1 victory over Narberth in the losers bracket. Wayne hosts Broomall-Newtown in the losers bracket final Monday at Odorisio Park (5:30 p.m.).

Moore had just one walk and was 2-for-4 at the dish with a two-run double. Batterymat­e Darien Pass also ripped a two-run double while going 2-for-3. He also threw out a runner at second base and was on the back end of a double play.

In the winners bracket final: SPRINGFIEL­D 1, BROOMALLNE­WTOWN 0 » Nick Gorman’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the fifth inning plated the only run Springfiel­d needed to advance to the championsh­ip round.

After back-to-back singles by Cole Sprague and Brandon DiChaicchi­o, Lane Kelly laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third. Gordon followed with his fielder’s choice to chase Sprague home with the winning run.

Colin Eberhardt pitched out of a bases-loaded, noout jam in the top of the fifth inning to keep B-N scoreless. Eberhardt went the distance to get the win. He allowed six hits, no walks and struck out three.

Springfiel­d will host the winner of the game between Broomall-Newtown and Wayne in the championsh­ip round Tuesday.

Delco League

Concord turned to the squeeze play to sweep a doublehead­er from Marple Newtown.

Kyle Davis laid down a perfect squeeze bunt with one of out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Canes a 6-5 victory in the second game of the twin bill. Concord took the first game, 12-6.

Davis went 3-for-3 and drove in Andrew Belfiglio with the winning run. Nate Sides finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and pitched the final two innings in relief of Ben Faso to get the win.

In the opener, Davis was 3-for-4 with a walk and three-runs scored. Jake Carr slugged a three-run homer while going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Frank Saviski also was 3-for-5. Faso and Brian Kirk added two hits and two RBIs apiece. Billy Buckwalter was the winning pitcher. NARBERTH 11, MIDDLETOWN 6» Joe Lake’s three-run homer in a six-run outburst in the first inning helped the Mudcats move back into first place. Lake finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Ryan Haley allowed four hits, one walk, no earned runs and struck out six in six innings to get the win. John Banes (2-for-4, two RBIs), Steve DeBarberie (two hits, one RBI) and Kevin McGowan (two hits, one RBI) also came up big at the dish for Narberth.

Delco MSBL

Jeremy Dale went the distance to help the Delco Tigers move into fourth place with a 13-2 romp over the Media Mustangs.

Dale scattered eight hits and struck out seven. Justin Sisbarro (3-for-4, three runs scored), Dave Tierno (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Rhett Whitton (2-for4) drove in three runs each.

Delmont Prep Legion

Jimmy Cage tossed a nohitter as Aston-Media Blue topped Wayne, 12-1, to move back into first place.

Jon Aman, Quentin Perrilli and Kieran Doughery all went 2-for-2 to lead the offense.

District 2 Babe Ruth 15s

Jeremy Lehmann slugged a two-run homer in each game to lead Media to the district title with 14-8 and 11-7 victories over Aston Valley.

Aston Valley faces District 1 runner-up 21st Ward in the first round of the state tournament Thursday in Mifflin County.

Lehmann’s second tworun homer put Media up for good in the nightcap. Andrew Rosenberg was perfect at the plate in the opener. Leadoff man Daniel Wood did the same in the nightcap.

Senior EDCO

Matt Trainor’s three-run homer in the fifth inning powered Marple II to a 10-7 triumph over Ridley.

Jim Sharkey got the win and drove in two runs. Chris Caltablian­o also knocked in two runs and earned the save.

District 19 11U

Ridley Area Little League is turning the tournament into its version of the home run derby.

After blasting five dingers in an 18-0 opening round victory over Delaware Valley, RALL came back with three more long balls in a 10-1 romp over Media.

Jaxon Kehoe started the game with a solo homer. Michael Floriendo belted a three-run blast. He had two dingers in the opener. Sean Williams also ripped a three-run homer in support of winning pitcher Austin Cannon, who allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings.

In the win over Del Val, Connor Scanlan, Austin Cannon and winning pitcher Jack Sharer belted one home run each.
