Travel to WWII Eastern Front this weekend at Fort Mifflin
PHILADELPHIA » March back in time to explore the Eastern Front of World War II from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 22-Sunday, July 23 at Fort Mifflin. Guests take a cultural tour of Europe as you visit with soldiers from German, Italian and Russian forces; learn the similarities and differences in their arms during weapons demonstrations, test their strength and accuracy at the Stick Grenade Toss (Saturday at 3 p.m.) and interact with event participants as they complete the scavenger hunt and perhaps learn a few words in the languages of the visiting armies.
Guided tours are noon and 2 p.m. and tactical demonstrations are viewed from atop the fort walls at 1:30 p.m. each day.
Explore this “hidden gem” of Philadelphia history that was pressed into service during World War II as a site for anti-aircraft batteries defending the nearby Naval Ammunition Depot and League Island Navy Yard and enjoy a culturally rich day on the Delaware River. The fort has a riverfront picnic area for guests. Parking is free.
Event admission tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for veterans or students under 12. Purchase online at www.fortmifflin. us or at the door (cash preferred).
