Concord sweeps Springfield in quarters behind Faso’s gem
Concord’s Ben Faso had everything working from the mound in Game 2 of the Canes’ Delco League quarterfinal round series against Springfield Wednesday.
Faso twirled a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts as Concord swept the best-of-3 series with a 3-0 victory.
Faso also singled and scored a run for the Canes, who will play top-seeded Narberth in the semifinal round beginning Saturday.
Tom Crumlish put Concord on the scoreboard with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Crumlish and Brian Kirk, who added a run-scoring hit, each finished 2-for-3. Kyle Davis added a single and a run scored.
In another Delco League quarterfinal: WAYNE 6, MARPLE NEWTOWN 5 » Thirdseeded Wayne completed the series sweep and will play No. 2-seeded Aston Valley in the semifinals Saturday.
David Splain’s two-run homer in the fourth inning put Wayne in front, 5-3. Bryan Rubin went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo jacks.
Tom Cockill pitched 4.1 innings to earn the win. Billy Greenfield supplied 2.2 innings of relief for the save.

Jake Franzini drove in the winning run with a groundout in the top of the ninth inning as UDHL claimed a 5-4 victory over Prince George (Md.) in the second game of pool play at the Mid-Atlantic tournament in Somers Point, N.J.
Sean Webb earned the win and Bobby Pothier registered the save for UDHL. Nick Ardito had two RBIs and Kirby Rich knocked in one.
UDHL (2-0) continues pool play competition Thursday against Washington Twp. (N.J.).
