Collingdale zoners to rule on super Wawa proposal
COLLINGDALE » A decision to allow variances for a super Wawa convenience store will be the first matter of business for the Collingdale Zoning Board at its Aug. 2 meeting.
Board Solicitor Ernie Angelos said Tuesday the decision of the three-member panel for 19 motions of relief from borough code will occur at the start of the meeting. Their decision comes following a two-hour hearing last week with developer Lordston Equities Inc., who is asking for the variances to open a 5,800 square-foot Wawa store featuring 12 gas pumps on 8.8 acres of land that is mostly in a residentially zoned area of the borough. The board decided to defer action on Lordston’s application until Aug. 2.
The new store is proposed immediately east of a store presently at 930 MacDade Blvd. and will feature access points from MacDade, Upland Terrace and Clifton Avenue via access road that will snake behind borough hall.
Lordston is looking for residential zone variances in regard to parking spaces, retail usage with gasoline dispensing stations, front and side yard setback, building height and signage.
The Board Collingdale Zoning will meet at 7:30 at Borough Hall. Following the announcement of the decision on the Wawa project the board will have a hearing for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church to renovate a building on its Woodlawn Avenue property for a senior-living complex.
