On environmental issues, Meehan’s record is awful
Recently, U.S. Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-7 of Chadds Ford, held a photo-op with the Citizens Climate Council, which served as a desperate attempt to pander to environmentally conscious voters. He did this because he knows that he will be losing his job next November and as a result he is running scared.
As your next congressman, I promise that I’m going to bring some common sense back to Washington, D.C.
Growing up I was told to always put your money where your mouth is, and when it comes to the environment I have. Although I have no voting record to show for it, I’m the proud owner of an American made electric car and solar panels that power my home, and I’m committed to a greener future.
The pathetic actions by Rep. Meehan to seem proenvironment are attempts to deceive his constituents, but to be completely honest, they are laughable because the facts are clear — his environmental voting record is abysmal and the people of Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District know the truth.
For reference, here’s a quick rundown of Rep. Meehan’s environmental record over the last few months.
The League of Conservation Voters gives him a lifetime score of 14 percent through 2016. And, in 2017, he has continued his scorched earth campaign in Washington:
Feb. 1: Rep. Meehan voted to repeal the stream protection rule.
March 1: Rep. Meehan voted against enforcement of the Clean Air Act.
May 24: Rep. Meehan voted to reverse a federal Environmental Protection Agency permit requirement for those spraying pesticides on or near rivers and lakes.
July 18: Rep. Meehan voted to delay implementation of ozone standards.
His two most recent votes on the environment have been especially abhorrent, by making it easier to build dangerous, fossil fuel carrying pipelines. Just over a month ago he:
July 19: Rep. Meehan voted yea to H.R.2910 Promoting Interagency Coordination for Review of Natural Gas Pipelines Act
July 20: Rep. Meehan voted yea to H.R.2883 Promoting Cross-Border Energy Infrastructure Act
These are not the actions of an elected official who fully understands the impacts of climate change, and it truly seems that Rep. Meehan wants more dangerous pipelines, like Mariner East 2 running next to our homes, schools, hospitals, places of worship, lakes, rivers, and streams.
When I’m in Congress, I plan on crafting bills that will put an end fracking, the building of new oil and gas pipelines, and other short-sighted and dangerous fossil fuel industry practices that harm everyone across the planet. Additionally, I will also advance green practices and technology that save money, help grow our economy, and protect our air, water, and land.
You won’t get this level of commitment from anyone else in this race, and together the United States a global leader once again in stopping climate change.
