Keep politics off Haverford School Board

- Conor Quinn, Haverford

To the Times: As a Haverford resident, I’ve been following local politics for 14 years, and there’s something different about this year’s election.

Elections for county council and local commissioners elections are always the hot elections every other year. This year for some reason the school board election has become a political election. One specific group has made this election about political parties. There are four seats up for election and one up for special election due to a resignation.

The school board for many years has been a non-partisan board where it isn’t about party and it’s about the individual running for that position. They have operated as a board where they get along and work together and never think about Party politics. I understand that the election of a controversial president in 2016 has caused some hard feelings, but that shouldn’t be taken out on good individuals running for re-election in the school board election because of their party affiliation.

This school board election is just as important as all the other school board elections and I hope the residents of this great community re-elect Denis Gray, Russ Bilotta, and Phillip Hopkins and elect newcomer Susan Mingey. These candidates are the best to help continue the quality education that residents of this great township enjoy.
