SHARON HILL » NHS hosts its fourth annual Community Health Fair at its behavioral health facility in the borough, 800 Chester Pike, from noon-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. The fair is held during Mental Illness Awareness Week (Oct. 1-7) and on National Depression Screening Day (Oct. 5). NHS Sharon Hill provides more than 20 different services to over 4,000 clients with behavioral health issues every year.

NHS CEO Joseph Martz and State Sen. Anthony H. Williams give welcoming remarks at 12:30. The fair includes free mental and physical health screenings, healthy foods, yoga and vendors who provide healthy lifestyle tips, resources, and giveaways to attendees. There will also be fun fall-themed activities for kids.

The NHS Sharon Hill facility features an Integrated Care Model, which affords clients the ability to see a primary care physician, a psychiatrist, and a therapist in one location. NHS partners with Fairmount Medical Care, a high-quality primary care practice group, which has provided staff and offices on-site to create an integrated care team. In addition, NHS Delaware County partners with Life Tree Pharmacy to provide an easy and quick way for individuals to receive their medications at the facility.

The facility also features an Open Access model, offering same day services to individuals and families. Through Open Access, intakes and psychiatric evaluations are scheduled the same day or week that an individual contacts the facility. When provided with prescriptions for medication, individuals have the option to have them filled at the on-site pharmacy that same day. Better treatment outcomes have been reported as a result of NHS implementing this model throughout several sites.
