Lynch, Dougherty help O’Hara into PCL tennis final

Caroline Lynch claimed a gritty victory in the No. 2 singles match and Jessica Dougherty followed that up with a straight set win in the No. 3 match as Cardinal O’Hara downed Archbishop Wood, 4-1, in the Philadelph­ia Catholic League girls tennis semifinals.

The victory keeps the Lions’ hopes of a fourth consecutiv­e league title alive. They will play Lansdale Catholic Friday at Legacy in Philadelph­ia.

Lynch won the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-1 in a win that clinched the match for Cardinal O’Hara. The Lions doubles tandems of Kenzie Gardler and Mary Clare Hayden and Lauren Logue and Katherine Total rolled to straight set victories.

In the Inter-Ac League:: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 7, NOTRE DAME 0 » Ashley Kennedy pulled out a difficult No. 1 singles match over McKenna Bramlage, 6-1, 7-5 to help the Churchwome­n remain undefeated. The rest were straight set victories. AGNES IRWIN 4, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 3 » Renee Repella, Emma Menkowitz and Tiffany Zhong won all three singles matches while Kendall Shaliekya and Rachel Kilger pulled out the No. 2 doubles match to seal the win for Agnes Irwin.

In the Tri-County Independen­t League: Schools J. M. BARRACK HEBREW 5, WOODLYNDE SCHOOL 0 » Janie Hershman only dropped one game in the No. 2 singles match and Hannah Parish did not drop a single one in the No. 3 match for Jack M. Barrack.

In the Ches-Mont League: DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 7, SUN VALLEY 0 » Olivia Warren took home three games in the No. 3 singles match and the tandem of Hailey Foreacre and Kaitlin Lynch won two games in the No. 3 doubles match for the Vanguards.

In nonleague action: SACRED HEART 4, HAVERFORD 3 » Senior Emma Burhop won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match for the Fords (5-10). Caroline Lewers won the No. 2 singles match in straight sets and Lindsey Dowd and Mary Dooner won a grueling No. 2 doubles match in three sets for Sacred Heart. RIDLEY 6, ACADEMY PARK 1 » Rajah Azor got things off to a good start for the Knights winning the No. 1 singles match in straight sets but the Raiders took over from there. Maddie Carlson won the No. 2 match 6-3, 7-5 and Quinaysia Payne won the No. 3 match 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Gioia’s third goal came play in overtime, lifting Marple Newtown to a 4-3 decision over Upper Darby. Kristen Rutecki also scored for the Tigers. Grace Muldoon powered the Royals with two goals and an assist.

Volleyball

Breanna Hickey had 13 kills, four aces and seven digs and Lauren Garvey had nine kills and five aces to lead Cardinal O’Hara to a 3-1 Philadelph­ia Catholic League victory over St. Hubert. The individual game scores were 2517, 22-25, 25-16 and 25-9.

Siobhan Boylan added nine kills and four blocks for the Lions (12-3, 6-1).

In the Ches-Mont League: SUN VALLEY 3, AVON GROVE 0 » Hannah Vickers had 10 kills, 17 assists and 11 digs, Olivia Nickerson had 10 kills and 16 digs and Rachel DeCarlo added 16 digs for the Vanguards (10-5, 7-4). The individual game scores were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-23.
