Saito powers Garnet Valley to an upset of Conestoga

Alyssa Saito came through with two goals and one assist as Garnet Valley upset Conestoga, 5-3, in Central League girls soccer action Thursday night.

The loss was the first in the league for the Pioneers and dropped Conestoga into second place, one game behind undefeated Penncrest.

Riley Delaney, Nicole Barnes and Regan Nelson netted one goal each for the Jaguars, while Kayleigh Saboja made four saves in goal. Katie Sparling added one goal and one assist. In the Del Val League: INTERBORO 6, CHICHESTER 0 » Cassidy Chadwick led the way with a hat trick for the Bucs. Kerri Barnett, Rachel Brennan and Courtney Floyd all scored each while goaltender Kayla Droxler made four saves.

In the Catholic League: LANSDALE CATHOLIC 5, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 » Maura Hendrixson scored her team’s lone goal and Kerry Patterson made 14 saves for the Lions.

In the Inter-Ac: IN THE SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL 3, AGNES IRWIN 1 » Liza Richardson put one in the back of the net and Alex Hark (15) and Mary Naylor (five) combined for 20 saves for Agnes Irwin.

In nonleague action: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 3, HUN SCHOOL 0 » Lauren Rodio, Raina Kuzemka and Josie Konokpa scored one goal each and Hannah Moriarty made two saves for the Churchwome­n (9-1).

Field Hockey

Ava Abatangelo found Gia DeAngelis for the game-winning goal with four seconds left as Marple Newtown rallied from a two-goal, first-half deficit to beat Ridley in the Central League, 3-2.

Kristen Rutecki scored twice and Anna Lemaster had 11 saves for Marple Newtown.

The Raiders started off strong scoring twice in the opening half as Allison Whaley and Shannon Flynn put goals in the back of the net.

Elsewhere in the Central League: PENNCREST 2, RADNOR 1 » Cailee Bates and Hanna Christians­en were the goal scorers for the Lions and goalie Audrey Bassett made 11 saves. Olivia Shae scored the only goal for the Raiders, while goalkeeper Rory Harper had six saves. CONESTOGA 10, GARNET VALLEY 0 » Megan Finnegan (six) and Holly Crothers (five) combined for 11 saves for the Jaguars (7-3-3, 3-23) in the losing effort. HARRITON 4, UPPER DARBY 0 » Sarah Marks scored twice and Maddie Daugherty had a clean sheet in goal with two saves. HAVERFORD 3, STRATH HAVEN 2 » Katie Capalbo gave the Panthers an early lead by scoring on a penalty corner in the first four minutes.

The Fords (11-2, 7-1) scored three goals after halftime, led by Katie Redding (two goals) and Sydney Corcoran. Jane Zarella and Kelsy Knapp both had an assist.

In the Catholic League: MERION MERCY 2, SACRED HEART 1» Dani Santora scored a goal in the second half and goalkeeper Colleen Visser made 10 saves for Sacred Heart (7-8, 3-7).

In the Del-Val: INTERBORO 3, CHICHESTER 0 » Ro Murphy notched a pair of goals, Jenna Schreiber added one of her own and Sophia Harley tallied four saves for the Bucs.

Sara Morrison had two saves for the Eagles.

In the Bicentenni­al League: LOWER MORELAND 6, DELCO CHRISTIAN 0 » Rachel Yeung had a strong game in net with 15 saves for the Knights (1-12, 1-9).

In nonleague action: TOWER HILL 4, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 3» Maddie Rehak tallied two goals, Gianna Pantaleo also had a goal and Academies Bridget Boyle (12) and Caroline Kelly (nine) combined for 21 saves as the Churchwome­n (10-2) fell in overtime. ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 2, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 0 » Maeve Riehman and Katie Labella scored one goal each for the Patriots. Goalkeeper Mary Kate Kearney had seven saves for the Patriots.

Girls Tennis

Agnes Irwin took home all four of the doubles match including the No. 3 match behind Sophie Yass and Carlin Sullivan, who won in three sets, on its way to a 4-3 Inter-Ac victory over the Academy of Notre Dame. Yass and Sullivan won their match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 while the other three doubles matches were won in straight sets.

The Irish started off strong claiming all three singles matches including Olivia Zoretic’s 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 3 match.

In the Del-Val: ACADEMY PARK 5, CHICHESTER 0 » The doubles tandem of Akima Roger and Aziana Kemp finished off a great team victory in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3, 6-3 to help the Knights (9-5, 6-0) extend their league match winning streak to 42.

In the Catholic Academies League: MERION MERCY 4, SACRED HEART 1 » Mary Dooner and Julia Shavo rallied to give Sacred Heart their only win of the match, claiming the No. 2 doubles match 7-6(8-6), 6-4.

In nonleague action: RIDLEY 5, SUN VALLEY 2 » Kayla Durning and Karlee Bryan did not drop a game in the final regularsea­son match of their careers and have won three of their last four matches for the Raiders.

The Vanguards opened singles play on a high note as Devin Cronin and Maddy Koons won in straight sets to get things started. MARPLE NEWTOWN 4, DELCO CHRISTIAN 2 » The Knights received two wins in doubles play including a tough 6-4, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 match by Daphne Neal and Lizzy Matthew.

Golf

Kevin Connor was the standout with a 50 and Ryan Haughey followed that up with a 55 as Sun Valley dropped its Chest-Mont League match to West Chester Rustin, 226278 at the Rock Manor Golf Club in Wilmington, Del. In the final match for the Vanguards seniors, Connor, Haughey, Jared Korenkiewi­cz (57), Dan Komorowski (57) and Justin Baksi (59) all shot under 60.

Water Polo

Ryan LaRocca netted two goals and six steals and Ryan Sanfilippo had a goal and three assists to propel the Haverford School to a 15-3 Inter-Ac win over Penn Charter. Matt LaRocca and TJ Brooks had two goals each while JR Leitz added two assists for the Fords (12-5, 1-1).
