GLENOLDEN » A home search resulted in the confiscation of 183 packages of heroin and the arrest of a borough man on possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver and related drug offenses, according to information released by Police Chief Jay Kelly.

Juwan Marshall Brown, 28, of the 500 block of Gardner Avenue was arrested Oct. 4. Additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia, Brown is being held at the county prison in lieu of posting 10 percent of $150,000 bail.

Borough Officer Richard Howell and members of the Delaware County Drug Task Force arrived at the Gardner Avenue residence about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Inside the house, they made contact with Brown, who was in a front bedroom on the first floor. Brown was immediately read his Miranda warning, according to the affidavit of probable cause authored by Howell.

A K-9 unit assisted at the scene, and during the search the dog “indicated a presence of narcotics in the front bedroom at the bottom of the TV stand,” the affidavit states. Located at the bottom of the TV stand, within reach of Brown, was an open rubber glove box containing a clear sandwich baggie. Inside the baggie were numerous glassine baggies bundled with a rubber band, packaged and ready for sale, the affidavit states.

“Inside each glassine baggie was a blue wax paper baggie with an offwhite powdery substance, suspected to be heroin,” the affidavit states. “Each blue wax paper baggie was stamped ‘Apple.’ “

Investigators also found a Newport cigarette box on the windowsill. The box, also in reach of Brown, contained another similar bundle of glassine baggies, which also contained an off-white powdery substance suspected to be heroin and stamped “Apple.”

The substances fieldtested positive for heroin.

“The total amount of suspected heroin baggies located by police was 183,” the affidavit states.

Found in a pocket of the pants that Brown was wearing was $1,658.

Investigators also recovered as part of the home search, a yellow pill identified as acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride, and a blue pill identified as alprazolam, the affidavit states.

Additionally, investigators found three non-traffic citations in the front bedroom; all were issued to Brown. Five cell phones were also among the evidence confiscated.

Brown’s preliminary hearing is listed for Oct. 12 before Magisterial District Judge Nicholas L. Lippincott in Upper Providence.
