Vendors, music, more at Ridley Park fall festival today
RIDLEY PARK » Main Streets of Ridley Park presents its eighth annual Fall Festival today, Oct. 8, from 1-6 p.m., centered around the 100 block of East Ward Street. The event features over 40 craft vendors, street food, food trucks, live music, and a Pumpkins in the Park Car Show.
The Friends of the Ridley Park Library present a free puppet show in the fire house at 2:30. The borough library is open from 2-4.
Entertainment on the main stage includes Rockin’ Road Grill Band from 1-2:15; Chico’s Vibe from 2:304:15; and the Juliano Brothers from 4:30-6. Community stage acts are the Fireworks Dance Company from 1:15-1:45; Brooke Falls from 2-2:30; Justin Depaola from 2:45-3:15; Kaleigh Bleacher from 3:45-4:15, and Charlie Bell from 4:30-5.
The car show runs for the entire event. Entry fee is $10. All makes and models are welcomed, along with motorcyles. Dyno pulls are available for an extra $35 (two pulls).

New caregiver support group meets
MIDDLETOWN » The Residence at Glen Riddle, 263 Glen Riddle Road, partners with Ascend Hospice to launch a caregiver support group. The first meeting is held 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, with the topic “Caring for the Caregiver.”
The program addresses the growing needs of caregivers and meets the second Wednesday of every month. The meetings address a variety of topics such as selfcare, communication and other issues pertinent to the group. Guests are able to share and support others in a caring environment.

Legislators host immigration forum
MILLBOURNE » State Rep. Margo Davidson, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and U.S. Rep. Bob Brady host an immigration forum to help untangle increasingly complicated immigration policy from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Philadelphia Sikh Society, 6777 Market St.
The forum addresses topics that include: DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program; the road and rights to citizenship; Green Card: What it means to be a temporary resident vs. a permanent resident; visas and appropriate identification; medical coverage for undocumented residents; and newly naturalized citizens.
Many agencies and organizations that have programs for the immigrant community are on hand to provide help and information, including on local, state and national resources.
“Our communities are better and more diverse because of the immigrants who live and work here,” said Davidson (D-Delaware). “Immigration can be a difficult, years-long process, and this event is a great place to help people navigate the system and understand the policies that affect them.”

Tour haunted Newtown Square by trolley
NEWTOWN » The Delaware County Historical Society and the Newtown Square Historical Society present “A Haunted History Tour of Newtown Square” from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Come out for a “spooktacular” time riding a trolley through cemeteries and over covered bridges on the tour of six spooky sites throughout Newtown Square.
The festivities start at the Drexel Lodge Park, 4140 West Chester Pike, where participants can board the trolleys, including one with Fox 29 Weather Anchor Sue Serio. Guests take a ride to the Newtown Square Friends Meetinghouse with a cemetery dating back to the 1700’s; the Bartram Bridge, the last covered bridge in Delaware County; and the Square Tavern, where artist Benjamin West’s father, John, was an intermittent host.
Next in line is the First Baptist Church Cemetery, where many of Newtown Square’s original settlers are laid to rest, followed by the Paper Mill House and Museum, which housed the Darby Creek mill workers of the 19th century.
The trolley’s last stop is the Newtown Square Pennsylvania Railroad Museum, time for their Pennsylvania Railroad Day celebration! Here, kids can ride a miniature train and see four rail cars that once traversed the township.
Children attending the history tour receive a Halloween goodie bag while supplies last. Students participating in the Delaware County Historical Society’s Passport to History program automatically receive stamps at each of the trolley stops. A light lunch is provided at the tour’s finale at Drexel Lodge Park,

The interactive day of information and ideas to provide help and hope in job seekers’ transition includes sessions: “Networking Made Easy” with Amy Dinning and Michael Goldberg, on the do’s and don’t’s of networking and the opportunity to practice networking techniques; “Critical Networking Tools for Your Toolkit” with Ford Myers. Since networking is such a critical method of job search, Myers focuses on critical tools for successful networking: networking script, networking agenda, networking profile, target-company list, networking tracking and mininewsletter; “Charisma: How to Positively Present Yourself So People Take Notice” with Matt Levy. Reent studies have found charisma to be not so much a gift as a learnable skill that anyone can master. In this thoughtprovoking and action-oriented session, guests learn skills to help be more charismatic — in person, online and on paper; “Structured Networking” with Michael Goldberg, who leads guests through several different networking exercises.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.; workshops run 9-4. Guests should business cards. Snacks and sandwiches are provided; those with special food needs should bring your lunch. Following lunch and before the final workshop, there is a question-and-answer session with the presenters.
