Radnor’s Ciarrocchi angling for 5th in district tennis

Radnor sophomore Kanon Ciarrocchi will play for fifth place in the District 1 girls singles tournament.

Ciarrocchi lost to topseeded Jordan Bradley of Downingtow­n West, 6-1, 6-4, in the quarterfin­als Saturday before moving on with a default victory over Mia Groetsch of Central Bucks South in the playback round.

Ciarrocchi knocked off Julia Gumieniak of Phoenixvil­le (6-4, 6-0) and upset eighth-seeded Dina Nouaime of Methacton in the second round, 6-4, 6-2, Friday to reach the quarterfin­als.

The championsh­ip, thirdand fifth-place matches will be held Oct. 25.

Boys Soccer

Clean sheet aficionado­s got double the pleasure Saturday in the boys’ nonleague soccer game between Penn Wood and Radnor.

The game was 0-0 half.

And 0-0 at the final horn, which included two overtimes.

Goalie Nate at the Congleton stopped four shots to get one of the clean sheets for the Raiders, now 9-2-3.

Girls soccer

Cassidy Chadwick scored two goals for Interboro, which hung tough in the first half before fading in a 5-3 nonleague loss to Octarara.

Nicole Floyd scored the other goal for the Bucs (77), who trailed, 3-2, at the intermissi­on.

Goalie Kayla Droxler recorded eight

Field hockey

Reese Canaday scored on senior day to lead host Oxford to a 2-1 nonleague victory over Strath Haven.

Emily Raech tallied for the Panthers, who trailed, 1-0, at the intermissi­on. McKenzie Raech registered the assist. Strath Haven started strong but couldn’t solve Pennsbury, which recorded a 3-0 victory.

Ellie Fisher contribute five kills, two aces and 10 digs for the Panthers, who were beaten 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15.

Abby Clark added two kills, one ace and four digs, Olivia Dumont posted three kills for the Panthers.

Also for the Panthers, Emma Golato had one kill, six digs and 12 assists, Megan Prendergas­t registered eight digs.
