Academy Park completes Del Val trifecta

Academy Park completed the trifecta Wednesday, taking the Del Val League doubles title after winning both the team and singles championsh­ips earlier this season.

The singles champion, Rajah Azor, added a doubles trophy to her burgeoning cabinet by teaming up with Cheyenne Phillips. The Knights’ duo ran into stiff competitio­n. In the semifinals, Azor and Phillips dropped the first set, 3-6, to Fatoumata Diarra and Motunrayo Agbeye of Penn Wood before rallying to take the next two, 6-4, 6-3. In the finals, they were challenged again, this time by Ixchele Ortiz and Sallay Thollie, also from Penn Wood. But Azor and Phillips prevailed, 7-5, 6-3. Both finalist pairings advance to the District 1 Doubles Tournament, which will take place next Friday at the Legacy Tennis Center.

Boys Soccer

A second-half wonder-strike saw Academy Park defeat Faith Christian Academy, 3-2, in nonleague action.

Daniel Pitt collected a short corner kick and fired a rocket into the net from some 25 yards away. Lansana Doumbouya played the ball to Pitt, one of two assists on the day. Doumbouya also scored for the Knights as did Tahjay Swaby.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 1, BONNERPREN­DERGAST 0 » Nicholas Frederick’s overtime goal broke the deadlock between these Catholic League rivals in late action from Tuesday. Jake Langley made seven saves for Carroll, while Tony Harper had 11 for Bonner.

Girls Soccer

Olivia Dirks scored twice in the last 10 minutes of the first half to give Episcopal Academy breathing room in a 4-0 Inter-Ac League victory over Agnes Irwin.

The Churchwome­n (11-1) got off to a fast start on the road, with Dirks’ markers capping a four-goal opening 40 minutes. Lauren Cunningham opened the scoring 3:26 into the match and Anna Salvucci doubled the lead six minutes later. Amelia Leyden made 13 stops for the Owls.

In the League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 8, NEUMANN GORETTI 1 » The Patriots rolled from the start, scoring three times in the Philadelph­ia Catholic first 12 minutes and six times in the first half as a whole.

Grace Gallagher grabbed a brace before the brace with Paige Mastripoli­to picking up a goal and an assist. Junior forward Jaelynne Bethea completed the scoring in the second half with two goals. Carroll improves to 7-8-1 overall, 4-5-1 in the league.

In the Bicentenni­al League: CALVARY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 4, THE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3 » Trailing 3-0 at halftime, the Crusaders rallied to force extra time.

Lindsay Haseltine started the comeback by converting a Grace Gormley throw-in. Gormley picked up her second assist on Hannah Sareyka’s first goal. Sareyka’s second tied the game with five minutes remaining in regulation. Alas, it was as close as TCA (7-7-0, 5-5-0) would get as Faith scored the winner on a deflection six minutes into extra time. DELCO CHRISTIAN 2, FAITH CHRISTIAN 0 » Both youth and experience contribute­d to the Knights victory. Senior Tori McManus got things started with a first-half goal; freshman Madison Vavala put the finishing touches on things after Athletic the break.

Field Hockey

Episcopal Academy scored twice in the first half then hung for a 2-1 victory over Inter-Ac League rival Agnes Irwin.

Maddie Rehak scored both goals for the Churchwome­n (11-2, 4-1). Emma Macaione pulled one back for the Owls (8-4, 2-3), who were supported by stellar goalkeepin­g from Paige DiLullo. She made 17 saves.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 0 » Three different goal-scorers saw the Patriots blank their Catholic League rivals. Katie Labella found the back of the net and assisted on Jade Orsatti’s goal. Sydney D’Orsogna completed the scoring for Carroll, which led 2-0 at half. BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 6, ST. HUBERT’S 0 » The Pandas stayed perfect in the league thanks to a fourgoal effort from Allison Martin. There was nice symmetry to her output as she bagged the first two and last two markers on the evening. Carly Brosious was also key to the Bonner offense, contributi­ng a goal and three assists. The Pandas move to league.

In the League: DELCO CHRISTIAN 6, MORRISVILL­E 3 » A hat trick from Mikayla Schuster helped the Knights pick up their second win of the season. Schuster’s three goals came in succession, with Abby Chung — two goals — and Jillian Orlandini also finding the back of the net for Delco Christian (2-12, 2-9).

In the Central League: HAVERFORD 6, RIDLEY 0 » The Green Raiders put up a fight in the first half, trailing just 2-0 at the break. But the Fords (14-2, 9-1) responded with four goals to secure win no. 14 on the season. Caroline Boornazian scored twice as did Maggie Murphy. 7-5 Bicentenni­al

Water Polo

overall, 6-0 in the Athletic

Haverford School senior captain John Nelligan led the way with three goals and five steals as the Fords ousted Souderton, 164. Nine different Haverford (13-5) players scored, with Matej Sekulic, a sophomore, also contributi­ng three goals. Nick Biddle and Jason Chen combined to make 10 saves in goal.
