1 injured following shooting at KOP mall
UPPER MERION » Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred at the King of Prussia Mall around 4 p.m. Sunday.
The victim, who was reportedly shot multiple times in the area of a Plaza parking lot near North Gulph Road, was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.
According to multiple sources, the incident was a police-involved shooting, involving a possibly armed suspect.
The shooting occurred roughly 24 hours after township police officials issued a press release regarding an armed robber who held up a female patron on the second level of the Green Deck parking garage — near where the shooting occurred — around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.
According to the release, the male suspect brandished a semi automatic handgun and demanded the victim’s purse before fleeing the area in a Maroon Kia SUV.
Upper Merion police did not confirm the incidents were related but said a press release regarding the shooting is forthcoming.
Mall officials released a which read:
“King of Prussia is cooperating with the Upper Merion Police Department regarding an incident involving an armed suspect that took place in the mall parking lot. Due to the swift action of the Upper Merion PD the situation was contained, the suspect apprehended and no customers or employees were harmed.”
The statement went on to direct inquiries to the authorities, citing an “active police investigation.”
The mall remained opened following the incident, with traffic being diverted from the parking lot and adjacent through roads.
