Busy November at Ridley with Medicare, music and history programs
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Ridley Township Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, hosts the following programs in Novemeber:
• “Remember When: Jukebox Hits of 1957” with entertainer Dave DeLuca at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5. DeLuca sings the great songs of the library’s founding year as part of its 60th anniversary series of programs, a year that included “Bye Bye Love” by the Everly Brothers, “Teddy Bear” by Elvis Presley, “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino, “That’ll Be the Day” by Buddy Holly, “Come Go with Me” by the Del-Vikings, “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke and more. The concert is free. Registration is requested, but there are no reserved seats.
• “Frick’s Lock: A Chester County Ghost Town” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. Frick’s Lock is a small village in northeastern Chester County with a link to the Industrial Revolution. It was once part of the bustling Schuylkill Canal, but now sits frozen in time, waiting to be rediscovered. Take a trip back to the canal era of the 1800’s, when Frick’s Lock was a vital part of the Industrial Revolution and barges moved coal, iron ore and vital supplies around our nation. Join Gene Pisasale, historian, author and lecturer, for this free presentation. Registration is requested; walk-in’s are also welcomed.
• “American Tactical Advancement in World War I” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6. Professor Jeffrey LaMonica of Delaware County Community College returns to the library for another lecture on World War I. This time, he’ll discuss the topic of his new book, which shares the name of the program, and explain how the U.S. Army evolved into a truly modern fighting force during World War I. By the war’s end, the American Expeditionary Force integrated new weapons like poison gas, tanks and aircraft into its offensive tactics and pioneered the mechanized combined arms warfare still practiced by the U.S. Army. The program is free; registration is requested.
• “Medicare Updates” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8. All Medicare subscribers, caregivers and anyone new to Medicare are welcomed to attend this one-hour classroom style presentation that explains new and updated information for the forthcoming Medicare year. The presentation consists of updated or new information concerning Original Medicare Premiums, Deductibles, Copays, Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D Prescription Plan Information. It is presented by APPRISE, a free health insurance counseling program designed to help older Pennsylvanians with Medicare. Registration is suggested.

Yoga, history, more at Aston
ASTON » Aston Public Library, 3720 Concord Road, presents free Chair Yoga classes at 11 a.m. Saturdays for six weeks starting Nov. 4. Space is limited; register at www.tinyurl.com/astonadultevents
Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair or standing, using a chair for support. It is appropriate for adults of all shapes, sizes, ages and genders.
The library offers several book clubs with meetings in November. There is a group meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 1:30 p.m., discussing “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty; and one meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, discussing “A Mercy” by Toni Morrison.
The library welcomes Gene Pisasale for a living history presentation. “Alexander Hamilton: Architect of the American Financial System,” at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6. Hamilton (1757-1804) is one of the most important, yet least understood of the Founding Fathers. Orphaned as a young boy on the island of St. Croix, he later emigrated to the colonies and fought as a soldier in the American Revolution.
Pisasale, author of nine books and a syndicated columnist, performs the lecture in full Continental Army uniform. Copies of his latest book are available for purchase at the event.

Kids programs at Norwood
NORWOOD » Norwood Library, 513 Welcome Ave., invites all Pokemon enthusiasts grades 3 and up to bring their cards and expertise to battle, trade, and just share ideas on being a fabulous Pokemon trainer on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 3:35 p.m. Also on Thursday, there a Toddler Storytime at 10 a.m. for ages 2-3 and their caregivers.

Dash for Haverford Library Nov. 11
HAVERFORD » The Haverford Township Free Library, 1601 Darby Road, holds a Dewey Decimal Dash 5K & Fun Run at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. This inaugural race features a beautiful race course down Karakung Drive in Havertown. Storybook characters join runner for the race along with “Super Dewey Decimal.”
Refreshments are be served before and after the race.
Cost for the 5K is $25 until Nov. 1; $30 from Nov. 1 through race day. The Fun Run is $10 until Nov. 1; $15 from Nov. 1 through race day. Yeadon celebrates 80 years
YEADON » Friends of Yeadon Public Library celebrate the library’s 80th birthday and the 50th anniversary of opening its current site at 809 Longacre Blvd. with the following events:
• Black Saturday Shopping Extravaganza and Harvest Tasting Event Nov. 25. Anyone interested in vending should contact the library. Table cost is $15.
• Yeadon Public Library 80/50 Birthday Party Dec. 16.
There is a free raffle for a gift basket in September, October, November and December. Tickets for each raffle are issued to any patron wishing to participate who comes into the library for any reason, with a name being drawn at the end of each month.
Kids fun at Upper Chi this fall
UPPER CHICHESTER » Upper Chichester Library, 3374 Chichester Ave., #19, Boothwyn, announces diverse programs for schoolchildren in grades K-5 are set for this fall. Favorite fuzzy friends serve as Pals For Reading on Oct. 21. The library is filled with Lego pieces on Nov. 18 as participants build awesome objects at Lego Club Super Saturday. UPPER DARBY » Upper Darby/Sellers Free Public Library, 76 S. State Road, welcomes APPRISE counselors to provide Medicare information during appointments and group presentations before and during the Open Enrollment period. The APPRISE program is a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) funded in whole or part by a grant through the Administration for Community Living. APPRISE Counselors are specially trained staff and volunteers who provide free, objective, and easy-tounderstand information.
Group presentations include: Medicare Update 2018 on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Update 2018 presentation consists of updated or new information concerning Original Medicare premiums, deductibles, copays, Medicare Advantage plans, and Part D Prescription Plan information. Attendees can be Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and anyone new to Medicare for the 2018 calendar year.
Individual appointments with an APPRISE counselor are available on the third Thursday of every month throughout the year. In addition, four appointments are available on Wednesday, November 29 for Medicare Advantage Health Plan and Part D Prescription Plan comparisons. The comparison appointments are forty-five minutes to onehour counseling sessions held only to provide guidance to Medicare beneficiaries and Medicare caregivers surrounding Medicare Health (HMO-PPO) Plans, Prescription (Part D) Plans, and Medicare Health Plan enrollment. The Health Plan Comparisons also help beneficiaries avoid falling into the “donut hole” with their prescription costs and/or Medicare health plan costs.
