Jenkins second Giant suspended

-

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. » New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

The suspension takes effect immediately, meaning Jenkins will miss Sunday’s home game against the Rams.

Jenkins was told Tuesday he was suspended. Coach Ben McAdoo said he will review the status of the suspension next week.

Jenkins is the second Giants cornerback to be suspended this month. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended on Oct. 10 after he left the team’s facilities before a practice. Rodgers-Cromartie missed the team’s Oct. 15 game at Denver, where the Giants won 23-10. He returned to the team the following week.

The Giants returned to practice Monday after their bye week and Jenkins wasn’t with them. McAdoo said he had been excused for personal reasons.

“At that point, neither myself nor any of the coaches had heard from Jackrabbit,” McAdoo said in a statement. “I did not speak with him directly until Tuesday morning.”

Dolphins place Allen on IR

Steen was sidelined by a foot injury that required surgery. Allen suffered a calf injury. DAVIE, FLA. » The NFL says Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso won’t be suspended for his hit that sidelined Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco with a concussion.

Flacco was hurt in the Ravens’ 40-0 victory Thursday when he slid and was then hit in the head by Alonso, who received a penalty for unnecessary roughness.

Fox: Miller ‘progressing well’

LAKE FOREST, ILL. » Chicago Bears coach John Fox says tight end Zach Miller is “progressing well” following surgery to save his left leg.

Miller remains hospitalized in New Orleans after tearing an artery while dislocating his knee trying to make a touchdown catch in Sunday’s loss to the Saints. He likely tore ligaments, though the more immediate issue is the vessel.

Blood clotting is a concern. So is nerve damage, though Fox wasn’t sure if there was any.
